To all 11/72/0712, it may concern:
Be it known that I, T/VILLIAM H. POTTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Attachments for Machines for Pulling Head-Hoops on Barrels and Kegs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in attachments for machines for pulling head-hoops on barrels and kegs, and has for its object to provide an exceedingly simple and effective attachment which may be quickly clamped to the arms of a trussing or hoop-pulling-on machine without removing any parts therefrom and which when in place will act as a gage for determining the distance to which the catch-hoop is driven below the upper edge or chime of the barrel and will also serve to pull on the thin head-hoop.
IVith these ends in view this invention con sists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claim.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the body of the attachment having the slot B formed therein, so as to pass over the upper end of the arm 0, a set-screw D being threaded through the rear portion of the body to clamp the attachment in place.
E is an undercut lip with which the nose F, carried by the arm, engages, thus firmly holding the attachment in place when pulling on hoops. The front surface of the attachment is curved, as indicated at G, terminating in a sharp edge H for engagement with the thin head-hoop when the machin is in operation.
The inner edge of the lip E when in place upon the arm-leaves sufficient space between the front of the sleeve on which the nose F is formed to permit the passage of the upper edge of a hoop in order that the nose may engage said hoop for drawing it in place.
In practice one of these attachments is placed upon each arm of the pulling-on machine, and the edge II of each attachment is first brought into engagement with the catchhoop and the arms moved downward, so as to force the catch-hoop into place, thereby drawing the staves tightly together, after which the thin head-hoop is placed in position and the nose F brought into engagement therewith and the arms moved down ward until the bottom surface of the undercut lip comes in contact with the upper edge or chime of the barrel, which will gage the distance to which this hoop is forced in place, leaving its upper edge standing upon the upper edge of the barrel. This is of great advantage, in that it permits the storage of the barrel after it has been headed and hooped in such condition that the top hoop may be finally driven home after the ordinary shrinkage has taken place and before the barrel has been filled.
The attachment is readily removed by backing off the screw D and swinging the body over the rounded end of the arm, which will permit the disengagement of the lip E from the nose F, thus permitting the substitution of other attachments when occasion requires.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is- In combination with the arm of a machine for putting on hoops, a nose on the side thereof, an attachment comprising a body having a slot to receive the arm, an undercut lip on the body adapted to engage and cooperate with the nose, the said attachment having a curved front surface and a sharp edge to enga e a thin head-hoop.
