JOHNJ. REIG-HARD, GF CANTON, ILLINGIS, Lettwfs Patent No. 83,793, dated November 3, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT 1N SAW-snr.
"ihe-Schedie referred to in these Letters Patent and making partei the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. REIGHARD, of Gan-l ton, in the county of Fulton, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and improved Saw-Set; and I do hereby declare thatgthe following is a full and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure I is a perspective view;
Figure 2 is a'longitudinal elevation; and
Figure 3 is a front view.
The nature of my invention consists in providing two hammers,v one pointed and faced to set the teeth on one side of saw, the other pointed and faced to set the teeth on the other sideof saw, yet both hung in same joint; also, in providing a gauge attached to a tenon, which works in a mortise, and is secured to re quired depth of set by a screw..
To enable othersskilled in the'art to make and use' my invention, I will more particularly describe its construction and operation.
I make the set of iron or other suitable meml, with the anvil A and 'hammer-points B C properly hardened, faced, and finished. A
The gauge D is secured to the tenon E, which slides in mortise F. -I secure this set by holding tenen L up to shoulder in any ordinary vise, or driving it into a wooden block. 4
I determine the depth of set desired, then move thergauge D to required position, and secure it by screw G.
The screw H is adjusted to give width of set, and it may be insertedin the nut I, if desirable.
While engaged in setting the teeth on one side of saw, I throw the other hammer back, as shown by red lines in g. l.
The springs J J keep the hammers from the anvil.
When the saw is reversed, to set the teeth on the other side, the hammers are changed.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improvement in a saw-set, the adjustable gauge D, with its tenen E, set-screw G, hammers B and C, when constructed and arranged as described.
