Description

No. 837,595. PATENTED DEC. 4, 1906 B. E. STORR. DOOR AND WINDOW SEGURER.
APPLICATION FILED APR.27.1908.

ooon AND wmoow SECURE-R.
T at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BURT EDWIN S'ronn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Willits, in the county of Mendocino and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door and Window Secu'rers,
of whichthe following is a specification.
This invention is a door and window seourer, and more particularly a portable device of this kind comprising a brace which is jammed between a door and the floor or be tween two sli window-sashes, whereby the door or win ow will be securely held closed. i
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and eilicient securing device which bottom plan view s can be readily a plied and which when not in use can be fol ed in-a small and compact form for convenience in carrying it.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention in position for securing a door; Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a bottom lan view. Fig. 4 is a l iowing certain parts in another position. Fi 5 is an edge view showing the device fol ed.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 7 and 8, respectively, denote two arms or members of substantially equal length which are connected by a hinge or other joint. The outer ends of the arms are formed with sharp pointsor teeth 9.
At 10 is indicated a sliding sleeve mounted on the arm 8 and secured thereto by a in 11, extending through a slot 12 in sai arm. This sleeve is adapted to be extended over the joint between the arms when they are straightened out to lock' them in this posi tion. The sleeve extends around one edge'of the arms only, and on-one side it is cut away, as at 13, to form a recess which receives the hinge-knuckles 14 when the sleeve is in locking position, as shown in Fig. 3. The pin 11 Specification of Letters Patent. I
Application filed April 27, 1906. Serial No. 818,992.
Patented Dec. 4, 1906.
also serves as a pivot on whichthe sleeve may be swung outwardl sufficiently to clear the hinge-knuckles, as s own by dotted lines tending into the recess 13.. For .securing a window the device will be laced between the to of the lower sash an against the inner si e of the u er sash. When not inuse, the sleeve is slid back on the arm 8 and the arms are thenfolded 'as shown in Fig. 5. In this position it can be conveniently carried in the pocket.
I claim 1. A door and window securer comprising a pair of arms connected by a hinge, and a sliding and laterally swingin sleeve mount ed on one of the members an extensible over the joint.
2. A door and window securer, comprising a pair of arms connected by a hinge, one of said members being slotted, and a sleeve slidably "mounted on the slotted member, and having a pin extending through the slot, said sleeve being extensible over the joint,"
and having a recess on one side to receive the hinge-knuckles.
In testimonywhereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
BURT EDWIN STORE.
