REVOLVING CASE.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 27, 1906.
Application led May 9. 1906. Serial No. 315.933.
To a/ZZ whom, it Wawy concern:
Be it known that I', OBADIAH SHIDLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alliance, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Revolving Cases 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speciiication, and to the `figures of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing a portion oi the shelf-supporting post properly located in its lower bearing and showing the bottom or lowermost shelf, a portion of the base, and its track.
The present invention has relation to revolving cases; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents the base, which is formed of any size desired, reference being had to the size of the case designed to be constructed. To the base 1 is attached the socket-plate 2, in which socketplate is located the hanged thimble 3, which ianged thimble receives the bearing 4, formed upon the bottom or lower end of the center post 5, which center post is formed of any desired length and is for the purpose of supporting and holding in proper spaced relation the various shelves of the case. The post 5 is substantially of the form shown, and, as shown, it is provided with a-series of shoulders or flanges 6, which shoulders or iianges are for the purpose hereinafter described. The post 5 decreases in diameter from its bottom toward its top, equal to the thickness of the shoulders 6, or, in other wor ds, the post is stepped and is so formed for the purpose hereinafter described.
For the purpose of providing a series of shelves upon which various articles are to be placed the arms 7 are provided. The inner ends of the arms are seated inthe notches 8. Upon the outer ends of the arms 7 are located the bands 9, which bands are securely attached in any convenient and well-known manner. T o the bands 9 are attached a series of upright strips 10, which strips are for the purpose of giving the revolving case the desired amount of rigidity. To the inner ends of the arms 7 are attached the metallic rings 11, which metallic rings are provided with apertures varying in size so as to properly rest upon the shoulders 6, and thereby assist in holding the arms 7 in proper relationship with reference to the post 5, said arms being attached to the metallic rings, as best illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3. In some instances it may be desired to inclose the revolving case proper by means of an outer nonrotatable case, and when this is desired bars 12 are secured to the base 1 at their bottom or lower ends and extended upward, and to their top or upper ends is attached the top 13, which top is provided with the thimble 14, which thimble is for the purpose of receiving the inner thimble 15,which inner thimble is secured to the top or upper end of the post 5. In case it is desired to use the revolving case herein shown for the purpose of delivering articles, especially pies and cake, said revolving case is to be inclosed by means of the gauze 16, as illustrated in Fig'. 3, and when so used the outer case may be dispensed with and the inner or revolving case placed in a suitable vehicle to be transported or carried with the vehicle, or, more properly, a deliverywagon.
For the purpose of properly supporting the revolving case the base 1 is provided with the track or way 17 and upon which track or way travel the casters 18, which casters may be of the form shown, and of course should be provided with grooved peripheries, as illustrated. To the arms 7 are attached a series of rings 19, which rings are partially embedded in the arms 7, as illustrated, and are held in proper relation with reference to said arms 7 by means of suitable staples 2O or their equivalents. It will be understood that the nonrevolving or outer case should be provided with a suitable door, such as 21, and if in the event gauze is to be attached to the revolving case then in that event said revolving case should be provided with a suitable door, either hinged or sliding, as the case may be.
It of course will be understood that the door or doors within themselves form no particular part of the present invention and, as illustrated, is simply conventional.
The post 5, as illustrated in the drawings,
IOO
it Will'be seen that said post can be Withdrawn as the outer casing has been removed or if in the event no casing is employed.
By providing the track or Way 1.7 the revolving case Will be held in proper upright position independent of the top 13 g but When the outer case is employed the top 13 Will assist in holding the post in proper upright position. While it is true that when the outer case is employed and the post 5, journaledat its top and'bottom ends, the 'casters 18 may be dispensed With if for small Icases; but-I prefer to employ the track or Way as illustrated.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by nLetters Patent, is#
Ina case of the class described, theV combi# nationbf aibase, apost .rOtataLbl-cathereon, said post provided With a series of shoulders having notches formedV therein, arms adapted to be seated in the notches, metal rings or plates secured to the inner ends of the arms, casters and a track or Way for the casters, and. shelves eachconsisting of a series of concentric rings carried by the arms, substantially as and Afor the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above Ihave hereunto subscribed myname'in-thegpresence ofttWo Witnesses.
OBADAH SHDLER;
Witnesses# WALTER RAMSEY, ALVA- RUMMERT.
