Be it known that I, ELMER FLICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bedford,
in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio,
have` invented certain new and useful Improvements in Base-Ball-Players Pads, of Awhich the following isa specification.
My invention relates to a pad, and more l i particularly to a hip-pad used inplaying base ball when sliding to a base, and has for its object to provide a durable inexpensive device j that will reduce toa minimum the possibility of an injury to aplayers hips. The belt 1, as shown, is of tape or any other inelastic material, with the exception of the portion 5 between the rear edges of the pads?) 3 or the portion which extends across the back of the wearer, which is of an elastic material and is provided With a buckle 6 for adjustment to bring the pads to the proper position and still give perfect freedom of action to the wearer.
In use the belt is buckled around the waist, the pads falling to'each sideicovering the hips. When running at great speed the wearer throws himself toward the base the first shock of striking on the hip-bone is taken on the inner pad 4, thus protecting the point of the hip-bone, and as the player slides along the several layers of the pad 3 crumple or slip upon each other, and thus prevent injury to the player which would Otherwise occur while sliding if a pad was not worn.
The construction of pad shown and described is of four layers of felt, but there may be only two layers of felt used. This and other minor changes in the form and construction may be resorted to without departing from the s irit of the invention.

A hip-pad for base-ball players comprising a plurality of layers of suitable material, secured together so they will have a sliding movement on each other, a belt of tape and elastic webbin secured to the upper end of the pad, a buckIe in the front and one in the rear of the belt for adjusting` the belt and pad to the player, substantially as shown and described.
2. A hip-pad for base-ball players comprising a plurality of layers of felt and a `pad of hair or sea-moss interposed between said layers, all secured together so they will have a sliding movement on each other, a belt of tape and elastic webbing secured to the`upper end of the pad, a buckle in the front and onein the rear of the belt for adjusting the belt and pad tothe wearer, substantially as shown and described.
