UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

' PLOW.
1 Application filed June 16,
Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is .to provide an improved plow, the parts of which are so conproved plow. Fig.
structed and arranged that the plow will be held steady in all the different kinds of soil and under different conditions in which it is being operated and in which different-sized shares may be used throughout a wide range of sizes, provision being made for adjusting the inclination of the share whenever necessar For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my im- 2 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 00 0c of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view illustrating the parts detached.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the beam of the plow, 2 the handles thereof secured to the beam at their ends and also bybraces 3, and 4 designates a clevis. The beam 1 is provided with a lower reduced end 5, producing downwardly-facing shoulders 6, and horizontally-extending supporting-bars 7 are secured, as by bolts, to the lower reduced end of the beam on op osite sides thereof, the u er edges of sai supporting-bars preferab y abutting against the shoulders 6, whereby to assist in holding the bars steady. The bars 7 project both forwardly and ,rearwardly of the beam, as shown, and their forward ends 8 are bent inwardly toward each other and constitute the pivotal support for the standard 9. The standard 9 comprises two s aced-apart and parallel members, preferab y integral with each other and connected together at their lower forward ends 11, such ends extending downwardly and forwardly, as shown. The members 10 of the standards embrace the forward end 8 of the supporting-bars 7, and a Specification of Letters Patent.
Fatented. Oct. 30, 1906.
1906. Serial No. 322.094.
1 pivot-bolt 12 extends through the members 10 of the standard and through the ends 8 of the bars 7 preferably at that point on the standard where the downwardly and forwardly extending lower ends join'the intermediate verti'cally-extending portions thereof. The upper end of the standard extends rearwardly and in a substantially horizontal plane, as indicated at 13, the two members 10 embracing ing members.
14 designates clamping bolts passed through the rearwardly extending upper ends 13 of the standard members so as to bind the same against the opposite sides of the beam and thereby hold the standard at different inclinations by frictional engagement.
.As illustrated in the drawings, the rearwardly-extending upper ends 13 of the standard members are provided with a lurality of apertures for the rear clampingolt 14. By this means the standard may be held rigidly after being adjusted to the desired inclination by means of the two clamping-bolts 14 and the arrangement or provision of said plurality of apertures, because it is evident that the principal strain upon the is being operated, and therefore the rearmost bolt 14 may be caused to engage the rear edge of the beam 1 and hold the standard secure, as against a downward rocking mo tion, while the clamping action of both of said bolts bind the members of the standard against the sides of the beam and serve to prevent, to a large measure, movement in the opposite direction.
Between the rearwardly-extending ends of the su porting-bars 7 is preferably secured an L-s aped or an ular guide-shoe 15, which is held by frictiona contact between the ends of the bars 7 by means of clamping-bolts 16 or the like. By this means the shoe may be adjusted to different elevations and to dif ferent inclinations 17 designates a share of the middle-buster type which is shown merely for the purpose of illustration, as it is to be understood that -my invention does not reside primarily in 1 any form or construction or size of share, as my improved plow may be used in an equally eflicient manner with different-sized shares and in widely-differing conditions of soil. This result is accomplished principally by the beam and constituting clamp-- standard is in a downward direction while it means of the adjustable standard 9, by which the inclination of the share may be changed in a convenient manner whenever desired.
In the present instance the share is attached to the standard by means of a bolt 18, secured thereto and assed downwardly through the opening ormed by the forwardly and downwardly extending lower ends of the standard members 10.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A plow comprising a beam and handles secured thereto, horizontally-extending supporting-bars 7 secured to the lower end of said beam and embracing the same and projecting both forwardly and rearwardly thereof, the forward ends of said supporting-bars extending inwardly toward and in contact with each other, a shoe secured between the rearwardly-extending ends of said supporting-bars, and a standard comprising two parallel members integrally connected at their lower ends and extending forwardly at their lower ends and rearwardly at their upper ends, said upper ends embracing the plowand the last-named bolt may be caused to engage the rear edge of the beam, for the purpose specified, and a share-attaching bolt assing through the opening between the ower end of the standard members and adapted to bind a share thereto, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
