UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 9, 1906.
Application filed May 27, 1905. Serial No. 262,646.
To ULZZ wir/01W t may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB FISCHER, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Swanton, in the county of Fulton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jackets for Steam-Boilers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to jackets for steamboilers, and has for its object to provide a covering which will eiiectually retain the heat in the boiler and which is adapted to be temporarily removed should repairs to the boiler require it.
With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinaiter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings, Figure l is a cross-section of a boiler provided with my improved jacket. Fig. 2 is a broken view showing the several parts of the jacket.
Referring to the drawings, in which like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, l is the shell oi a steam-boiler. On the outer surface of the boiler-shell l is an inner covering 2, composed of a heat-insulating material, such as asbestos paper. Arranged at suitable intervals around the boiler are strips of wood 3, to which is secured an outer covering 4 of Russian or galvanized iron. In practice I place a second heat-insulating covering, such as asbestos paper or felt, around the boiler between strips 3 and outer covering 4, which materially assists in retaining the heat in the boiler. The seams of the outer casing are covered by bands 5 of brass or other suitable material, said bands being fastened by screws to the strips 3. By making the jacket in sections and securing the two meeting ends 6 of each section to one strip the jacket may be removed from the boiler and replaced thereon with very little trouble. All that is necessary is to remove the bands 5 and release one of the ends 6 from strip 3.
I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim as novel, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A jacket for steam-boilers, comprising a heat-insulating inner covering and a metallic outer covering arranged in spaced concentric relation thereto, longitudinal separatingstrips of insulating material interposed between said covering and arranged in spaced relation to form air-spaces, said outer covering being formed with a plurality of annular sections having a peripheral alinement throughout the lineal extent of said outer covering, the meeting ends of said sections being severally secured to the corresponding separating-strips and a series of retainingbands severallyI surrounding the respective sections of the outer covering.
2. Ajacket for steam-boilers, comprising a heat-insulating inner covering having a direct contacting relation with the exterior surface of the boiler, a metallic outer covering arranged in spaced concentric relation thereto, longitudinal strips of insulating material interposed between said coverings and spaced apart in annular series to form coextension longitudinal air-spaces, said outer covering being formed with a plurality of annular sections having a peripheral alinementy throughout the lineal extent of said outer covering said sections being severally secured in successive order to the respective separating-strips and a series of retainingbands Aseverally surrounding the respective sections of the outer covering. v
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
