To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR SANDALL, a citizen of the United States of America, re-' siding at York, in the county of York and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Egg-Beaters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in egg-beaters of that type employing cooperating stationary and revoluble beaters, the obj ect of the invention being to provide a beater of this character which is simple of construc tion, eflicient in use, and adapted to be' economically manufactured.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an egg-beater embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail front elevation of the stationary beater.
Referring to the drawings, the frame of the device is shown as comprising a supportingstandard 1, carrying at its upper end a loop handle 2 and at its lower end a stationary beater and guard 3, said beater comprising a strip of sheet metal bent into the form of an oval receptacle, the strip of material having its free ends extended in parallel relation above the center of the'beater-body to provide attaching arms 4, bearing on opposite sides of the standard 1 and secured thereto by suitable fastenings 5.
On'the front of the standard are spaced bearing-lugs 6, in which is revolubly mounted a shaft 7, carrying at its lower end the rotary beater 8, which latter is also of oval form and rotates within the space formed by the stationary beater 3. The shaft and rotary beater are preferably formed of a single piece of wire bent at one end to form the frame of the beater 8, the terminal of such end of the Wire being bent to form a hook or clip 9, engaging the shaft at its point of junction with the beater, thus providing a simple form of structure. Extending longitudinally across the beater 8 is a strand 10 of wire or other thin material, and vertically arranged at the ends of the beater are other strands 11. The upper end of the shaft 7 carries a pinion 14, meshing with a driving-gear 15, which latter is provided with a spindle 16, journaled in a bearing 17 and extending to the rear of the standard, where the rear end of the spindle is upset or formed with a head to retain it in position. The gear 15 is also provided with a suitable operatin '-handle 18.
The mode of operation of t e device will be apparent from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, and it will be seen that abeater is provided which is simple in construction and capable of being manufactured at a low cost.
Having thus described the invention, What I claim is An egg-beater comprising a supportingstandard, a stationary beater member composed of a strip of metal bent into oval form and having its free end extended to provide attaching arms fastened to the standard, bearings upon the standard, a shaft journaled in said bearings and provided at one end with a pinion and at its opposite end with a rotary beater member moving in the stationary beater, said shaft and rotary beater member being formed of a single piece of wire, the rotary beater member being of oval form and having a body of crossing strands, and a drive-gear journaled on the standard and meshing with said pinion.
