NOSE DEVICE FOR HOGS- Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed April 25, 1906. Serial No. 313,6 92.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS H. THOMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Thomasville, in the county of Montgomery and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Im rovement in Nose Devices for Hogs, of Whidh the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyin drawings.
Iy improvement relates particularly to devices to be secured to the noses of young hogs for the purpose of preventing them from rooting.
The object of the invention is to provide such a device which shall be simple in form and efficient in action.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Referring to said drawings, 1 is a roller mounted rotatably upon a wire stirrup 2. Said stirrup is preferably formed of Wire. The free end of each shank 3 of the stirrup is provided with an eye 4. Said stirrup, carrying the roller as described, is supported by a ring 5, which extends through the eyes 4 of the stirrup. Said ring is open opposite said eyes, and the device is applied to the nose of the pig by presslng the ends of the metal constituting the ring horizontally through the cartila e which is located between the nos trils. hen the pig tries to root, the roller 1 impinges upon the ground and is rotated.
I claim as my invention 1. In a device of the nature described, the combination with an open ring, of a stirrup supported by said ring, and a roller sup orted by said stirrup, substantially as descri ed.
2. In a device of the nature described, an open wire ring, a stirrup having eyes through which said ring extends, and a roller supported by said stirrup, substantially as described.
