To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, I-I'ENRY PERKINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Casey, in the county of Clark and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nose-Rings for Animals; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in r ings adapted to be attached to the snout of a hog and prevent the same from rooting, and comprises various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the ap,
wire which is bent in the shape of a coil with the ends of the ring overlapping each other. Said ring is adapted to be passed through the snout of a hog or pig, a hole first having been made through the cartilaginous portions of the snout.
B designates a coil made of a separate piece of wire which is loosely mounted on the coil A with the ends of said coil projecting parallel to each other and pointed and adapted to hang loosely upon the coil A. The purpose of said coil is to prevent a hog from rooting the ground, the extra coil with the points thereon serving effectually to prevent the same.
If preferred, the coil B may be dispensed with, this being done preferably when the device is used in connection with pigs, but with hogs it is desirable to have 'the extra coil for the purpose of more effectually pre- HENRY PERKINS.
