Description

Y. RAKESTRAW.
Pldw. v
Patented Oct. 20, 1868;
amt: (Bftm Letters Patent No. 83,206, dated October 20, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT m PLows.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To whom it may concern Be it known that I, YARNALL RAKESTROW, of Whitehouse, in the'count-y of Lucas, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying (hawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my plow.
Figure 2 is a plan View of the opposite side.
Like letters indicate like parts in each figure.
The object of this invention is to so construct a plow that the point and cutter will completely out the bottom and side of the furrow before the mould-board is required to turn it over, that the nose usually found upon plow-points may be done away with, thereby making a saving in the power required to operate 'the implement, and that will not clog up under any circumstances.
In order to accomplish this end, I construct a plow, provided with the usual handles A and beam B, to which is attached the standard 0, which is made of any suitable mateli al, and in the form shown in fig. 3.
Upon one side of this standard I attach the mouldboard D, which is made of glass, of a proper temper,
and of any desiredforrn.
The standard is so constructed that its foot forms the rear part of the landside E, while the point F,which, with the cutter G, is constructed of one piece of steel, or other suitable material, forms a continuation to the landside and standard, and to which it is attached by a proper bolt, H.
It will be seen that the shape of the standard, as shown in fig. 3, is such that the point I of the same extends forward 'to strengthen the point of junction between the point and cutter and the mould-board. Also that in the construction of the point and cutter I do away entirely with the projecting nose usually found upon instruments of this kind.
If more desirable, the mould-board may be made of steel, cast-iron, or other suitable material.
What I claim as my invention, and desire 'to secure by Letters Patent, is'- The point F and cutter G, in combination with standard G, substantially as set forth.
Witnesses YARNALL L. O. HYDE, H. S. Srmeun.
RAKESTROW.
