PATENTED SEPT. 25, 1906 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MINOT S. PARTRICK, OF SOUTH NORWALK, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO I/VILLIAM HOBSON, OF SOUTH NORWALK, CONNECTI- CUT, AND ONE-FOURTH TO PATRICK F. CROTTY AND ONE-FOURTH TO JOHN MYLOD, OF NORWALK, CONNECTICUT.
KNOB ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 25, 1906.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MINOT S. PARTRIOK, a
' resident of South Norwalk, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knob Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to knob attachments, and has for its object to rovide a complete knob which shall be easi y and readily adjustable to all doors and which shall be cheap and economical of construction.
In the drawing forming part of this specification the figure is a view, partly in section, showing my invention.
A represents the knobs, which may be of any material or construction, having attached thereto the knob-shanks B, provided with sockets for the reception of the spindle B. The socket in the shank of each of the knobs is made square, and one face of the socket is provided with serrations or corrugations C. The spindle is formed with corresponding corrugations D. One of the knob-shanks, the one to the left shown in the drawing, has a screw-threaded orifice, in which works the set -screw F. This setscrew is of a sufficient length to cause the corrugations on the spindle to engage with those in the socket. It will be seen, therefore, that this spindle can be adjusted within the limits of its length within the socket.
The socket in the other knob-shank, the one shown to the right, is sufiiciently larger than the shank to allow the introduction of a key E. This key is of such a thickness that when put in place it causes the serrations on.
causes the two sets of serrations to engage, thus holding that particular knob in any position in which it may be adjusted.
From the above description it will be seen that a knob attachment is produced which is readily adjustable to any thickness of door and of such a form that the adjustment is cap able of variations within very small limits. It does away with the necessity for washers, allows an exceedingly close adjustment, is very simple in its construction, and almost avoids the necessity for machine-work, for the serrations on the shank may be stamped, the serrations in the knob-shanks may be cast, and all adjustments are quickly and easily made I/Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A knob attachment consisting of a knob, a shank, said shank having a socket, said socket being provided with serrations on one of the inner walls thereof, a spindle having fiat sides, one of said flat sides being provided with complementary serrations, and means fitting between one of the walls of the socket of the shank and one of the flat sides of the spindle to hold the serrations in engagement with each other.
2. A knob attachment consisting of a knob, a shank, said shank having a socket, said socket being provided with serrations on one of the inner walls thereof, a spindle having flat sides, one of said flat sides being provided with complementary serrations, and a key between the shank and one of the fiat sides of the spindle to hold the serrations in engagement.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand, at South Norwalk, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, this 11th day of June, 1903.
