Be it known that I, EDWIN B. SrIMPsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, in the city and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the class of fasteners for gloves and the like, and has for its object to provide a simple and durable hookfastener which cannot be disengaged by pulling directly upward or outward on the outer element of the fastener and which will not be liable, therefore, to accidental disengagement.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention in the form of a glove-fastener, Figures 1 and 2 are respectively views of the upper and under sides of the hook member of the fastening, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing the same secured to the fabric by its clenching-plate. Figs. 4 and 5 are respectively plan views of the receiving member and its clenching-plate, and Fig. 6 is a sectional view showing this member secured to the fabric. Fig. 7 shows the two members inside elevation and secured to the fabric. Fig. 8 is an enlarged sectional view showing the members engaged.
In the form of the fastener shown in the drawings, Adesignates the hook member as a whole, and B the receiving member as a whole. These are made from sheet metal struck up or stamped into shape and are by preference circular when seen in plan. The hook member consists of three parts namely, the main part or base 1, having in its under side a recess 2, a hook 3, bent inward and under, as shown, and a marginal inturned flange 4, the clenching-plate 5, having prongs or spurs 6, which extend down and are bent so as to engage the flange 4 on the base, and a cap 7, having an inturned marginal flange which takes under the margin of the disk of the clenching-plate.
Fig. 3 shows clearly how the member A is secured to the material G'of the glove. The pron s of the clenching-plate extend inwardly through the fabric and take under the flange 4, where they are clenched by pressing the parts together. The ca 7 is mainly for ornament and to impart a 'sh'. It is not essential to the fastening. The clenchingplate 11 (seen in plan in Fig. 5) will serve to illustrate the plate 5 of the hook member A. The receiving member B consists of two essential partsnamely, the main part 8, having an inturned marginal flange 9, and an elevated or struck-up part 10, with an opening or slit at w for the entry of the hook 3 on the hook member, and a clenchin late 11, with spurs 12. The attachment 0 t e member B to the fabric G is the same as that of the member A, as may be seen in Fig. 6, and the clenching-plates employed for the two members may be alike.
Fi s. 7 and 8 illustrate the manner of making the fastening when the members are applied to the glove at the respective sides of the slit at the wrist thereof. The hookmember is secured to the overlapping partof the fabric and the receiving member to the underlapping part. In making the fastening the overlapping part of the fabric is drawn over until the hook 3 can enter the aperture or slit 0:, when the elevated part 10 on the receiving member B will engage or occupy the recess 2 in the hook member A. This enables the parts to nest or come together closely and neatly.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A fastener for the purpose specified, comprising a hook member which consists of a base, provided with a recess in itsunder side, a hook turned inwardly under the base, and an inturned marginal flange, and a clenching-plate provided with spurs to engage the flange on the base, and a receiving member, comprising a main part provided with an elevated part 10, and with an 0 ening to receive the hook on the other mem er, and a clenching-plate having spurs to engage the inturned flange on the receiving member, as set forth.

A fastening for the purpose specified, consisting of two members A and B, of sheet metal, the former comprising a base 1, having at its under side a recess 2, and a hook 3, and provided with a marginal, inturned flange 4 a clenching-plate 5 provided with spurs 6 to engage the flange on the body and secure the latter to the fabric; and a cap 7,which has an inturned flange to engage the margin of the clenchin -plate; and the latter member consisting Ola main part 8, provided with an'elevated part 10, and an opening'fw to receive the hook on the first-named member, and an inturned marginal flange 9, and. of a clenching-plate provided with spurs which 5 engage the flange 9 and secure the member to Witnesses:
