Description

PATENTED 'SEPT. 25, 1906.
1). P. can. LABEL HOLDER.
APILIOATION FILED MAR. 31. 1906.

' Attorneys UNITED STATES PATENT UI FICE.
DAVID PITKIN com, or BELLEVILLE, ONTARIO, CANADA.
LABEL-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 25, 1906.
Application filed March 31, 1906. Serial No, 309,071.
To all whom it may concern:
ject into the recesses S and are rockably Be it known that 1, DAVID PITKIN CORY, a maintained in position by the brackets 7.
subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Belleville, county of Hastings, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Label-Holders and I do hereby declare that the following 'is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to label-holders.
The object of my invention is to provide a label-holder particularly adapted for use on railroad-cars, which will clamp one or more thicknesses of cards.
A further object is to provide means for locking and supporting a pivoted clamping member.
A further object is to provide means for limiting the movement of the locking member; and my invention consists of the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as herein illustrated, described, and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, I have illustrated one form of embodiment of my invention, in which drawings similar reference characters designate corresponding parts, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken through the device approximately on line 3 3 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction incheated by the arrow.
Referring to the drawings, I provide supporting members comprising a body portion 1 and an upper U-shaped portion 2. The body portion 1 is secured in any suitable way to the side 3 of the car or other body to which the device is applied.
Rockably disposed in the U-shaped portions 2 of the supporting members 1 is a clamping-frame 4, the under face of which is provided with serrations 5, leaving teeth 6 adapted to bear against the car-body 3 when the device is in closed position. Disposed above the supporting members 1 are brackets 7, which may be secured to the car-body in any suitable way. The brackets 7 are provided with recesses 8 and projecting lugs 9. Disposed between the brackets 7 is a hood 10, provided with pintles 11, which pro- The hood 10 is provided with a flange 12,
adapted to bear on the sides of the frame 4 and lock the same in closed position, as shown in Fig. 3. The upper end of the frame 4 is curved, as shown at 13, Fig. 3. hen the hood 10 is raised to the dotted-line position of Fig. 3, the frame 4 is adapted to swing outwardly and the curved surface to bear against the under side of the hood, so that the frame is maintained in its outwardswung position. The card A being inserted, the frame I is swung back to the position shown in full lines in Fig. 3, thereby. clamping the card firmly against the side of the car. The hood drops downwardly, so that its flange 12 bears on the outer face of the frame 4: and locks the same in position. The lugs 9 are provided on the brackets 7 to prevent the hood 10 being swung so far upward as to permit the frame 4 dropping out of its support or beyond the dotted-line position shown in Fig. 3.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a labelholder, the combination comprising supporting members, each having a body portion and a bent portion, a supporting-frame rockably disposed in said bent portions, and means for locking and limiting the movement of the rockably-supported frame.
2. In a label-holder, the combination comprising a rockably-supported clamping member, and a rockably-supported locking member provided with flanges adapted to engage the clamping member and limiting its movement.
3. In a label-holder, the combination comprising a rockably-supported clamping member, a pivoted member adapted to limit the movement of the clamping member, and means for limiting the movement of the pivoted member.
4. In a label-holder, the combination comprising a rockable clamping member, a hood disposed above the rockable clamping member and adapted to engage the same and provided with pintles, supporting-brackets secured adjacent the ends of the hood and provided with recesses adapted to receive the pintles, and provided with lugs adapted to limit the movement of the hood.
5. In a label-holder, the combination eom- I In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my prising a rockable clamping member prohand in the presence of two Witnesses. vided With-a'rounded end, a roekable hood D AVID PITKIN CORY.
