My invention relates to improvement in poster boards and the primary object of the same is to provide a poster board that will hold the papers being posted therein completely across the width of the board, and that will allow the papers to be pushed through the clamping device to any desired position while using the board.

A further object of my invention is to provide a board that is streamlined in appearance and is easy to operate, no mechanism being visible relative to the operation of the clamp.

Another object of my invention is the designing of a poster board that can be easily attached to the cowling of the vehicle by a specially designed holding clamp and support.

A still further object of my invention is the provision of a clamp that will give complete contact across the papers being posted on the board, and that is so designed as to be most effective in the tearing, off of the individual sheets of paper.

A further object of my invention is to provide a poster board that will clamp any number of sheets of paper with the same gripping effect.

Referring to the drawings:

Figure l is a perspective view of my new and improved poster board having papers posted thereon.

Figure 2 is a rear end view of the poster board, taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary detail sectional view, taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2, illustrating the paper clamp.

Figure 4 is a fragmentary enlarged detail sectional view, taken on line 4--4 of Figure 2, illustrating the spring mechanism for holding the clamp down.

Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective view of the instrument board of a vehicle having a supporting device installed thereon, the said device adapted to receive and hold my new and improved poster board.

Figure 6 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view, taken on line 6-6 of Figure 5, illustratin how my holding device is secured to the instrument board and illustrating by broken lines the position of my poster board held thereby.

Figure 7 is an enlarged fragmentary plan view of the upper left hand corner of the holding device, having my poster board clamped thereunder, part of the clamp being broken away for convenience of illustration.

Referring more specifically to the drawings:

My new and improved poster board consists of the board I having a paper clamp assembly mounted thereon consisting of special streamlined hollow brackets 2 secured thereto by holding screws 3. Pivotally mounted between the brackets 2 is a paper clamp 4. This clamp consists of a jaw 5 for contacting the paper 6 as best illustrated in Figures 1 and 3.

Forming part of the jaw 5 is a solid area I, and extending from oppositely disposed sides of the area 1 are pivot stub shafts or pintles 8. These stub shafts enter the openings or bearings 9 of the brackets 2 and have crank arms or levers l0 fixedly secured to their ends as best illustrated in Figure 4. One side of the stub shafts are flattened, as illustrated at H, preventing thearms H) from rotating thereon. I

Cored openings or bores l2 are formed within the brackets 2 and are adapted to receive the coil springs I3. These springs are guided within the openings l2 by working fit and are partially kept in alignment by the pins M, the said pins having a head [5 for engaging the cam surface iii of the crank arms 10. The crank arms l0 and the springs l3 are located in both of the brackets 2, and in the event anything happens to one of the spring and crank arm assemblies, the poster board will still be useable as the other of the two springs and crank arm assemblies will be in operation.

In the operation of the clamp assembly, the operator pushes downwardly on the area or lever 1. This pivots the clamp assembly with the stub shafts 8 within the bearings 9, forcing the crank arms ID against the springs I3 overcoming the tension of the said springs and permitting the paper 6 to be either moved into place under the clamp or removed therefrom.

When the operator releases the lever 1, the clamping bar or jaw 5 will again engage the paper by the action of the springs l 3, crank arms I0 and stub shafts 8, forcing the clamping bar 5 against the paper.

Referring to Figure 3, the clamping bar 5 is so shaped as to engage the paper 6 along its forward edge I! so that when it is desired to tear a sheet of paper off the pad this edge will cause the same to tear evenly completely across the sheet.

One of the outstanding features of my new and improved poster board is the streamlined shape of the brackets 2, together with the clamping bar 5, all of the working parts being enclosed within the brackets and the shape of the brackets themselves presenting a pleasing appearance.

The area 1 may be effectively used for advertising space, due to the fact that it provides a solid space to which advertising can be placed. When my poster board is used in vehicles or the like, a special board I8 is secured to the instrument panel I!) of the vehicle by way of screws or bolts 20. What I claim is: V A poster board comprising a base, ibrackets on opposite sides of; the base, each bracket having a:

hollow portion with a communicating bore, a

clamp located between, the brackets, pintlesextending from each endof the clamp, the pintles extending through openings, forrned in,-the,

brackets and into the, hollow portions of said brackets, the inner end of a pintle having a flattened side, a lever mounted on the. inner end of a pintle, the lever having an opening; with a flat wall receiving the flattened side-oi a pintle, the lower end of a: lever having a cam, an opening entering the hollow portion of a bracket: in line with a lever end and, a cOiIeds ring; in the 4 opening, a pin within and extending from the spring coil and a head on the pin engaged by the spring end and engaging the cam, the clamp having a lower edge to engage the board in front of the pintles,with the upper end of said clamp extended rearwardly beyond the pintles, whereby when the upper end of the clamp is depressed the lower edge will be elevated and the cams will place the springs under tension to return the clamp to normal position when pressure is released on the upperend of said clamp.
