To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL Wrasse, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Essen-Riittenscheid, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burning Time-Fuses, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to burning time-fuses. It is customary to make the body of such fuses of comparatively soft metal; but it has been found that when rofuses are ed with great initial velocity the projectile bursts before the expiration of the ad usted time of burning. This is due to the fact that on firing the base of the fuse bends under the effect of its own inertia, thus creating an empty space between the base of the fuse and the priming-circle in the composition ring surmounting the disk, throu h which space the flame oi the priming-airs e passes to the channel in the leading to the detonatingchamber. The ignition of the charge is therefore not del yed till the burnin out of the part of the primingmircle whic corres ends to the adjusted time of'burning. On the contrary, the ignition of the charge takes place directly after the priming-circle has started burn ing.
The object of the present invention is 'to do away with the drawback above set forth. In he accompanying drawings I have, by the way of example, shown the invention applied to a fuse which is provided with one fixed composition ring and one rotatable composition ring. Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the fuse and part of the projectile, the several parts bein shown in the fositi ons which they assume he ore firing; an Fig. 2 is a view corresponding to that shown in Fig. 1 showing how the shape of the base of the tuse is altered by firing.
