Be it known that LVVILLIAM IIENRrCoNn, of the town of Berlin, in the county of W ater loo, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Producer Generators, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in gas-producer generators; and the object of the invention is to produce a generator by which. the formation of air-channels in the body of the fuel will be prevented, and consequently a gas of a superior quality produced, and second objects are to dispense with the ordinary expansion-ehamliers used between the generator and point of combustion. To carry out these objects, I have constructed and arranged my generator, as hereinafter more particularly explained,

A is the casing of my gus-generator, which is preferably cylindrical in Form and is proviued for the major portion of its height with a fire-briek lining A, surroui'uling the tirebed and peep-holes A so that the o crater may be able to see the condition of t 1e firebed.
A is an internal casing forming the lower portion of the fire-bedthat is,the port ion in which the ash falls. The position of the valve N maybe therefore varied over the pipe M, as may bedesired, depending on the amount of steam and air which it is desired to introduce into the fire-bed by means of the openings B.
O is an n warxily-extending boss secured to the top 0 the water-section and provided with a series of openin O and a ring-valve having correspondin openings O, such ring-valve being manipu ated by a handle 0. (See detail, Fi 2.)
By means 0 the valve above described the amount of air introduced into the water-seetion may be re ulated to a nicety, so thatthe steam arising om the water, together with the air, may pass down through the pipe M and u into the bed of fuel through the openin s In case of too much steam, which would have a tendency to deaden the fire, I can regulate the ringvalve C, so as to more or less open or close the openings B. I can, of course, close them altogether and introduce air alone, if desired, through the center of the fire b manipulating the valve F and raising the am er D, or instead I can keepthe damper 8 closed and introduce the air partially through the openin B by manipulating the ring C by the ban le-C and manipulating the valve F and allowing the steamladen air to pass downwardly through the conduit D and u through the centerof the fire underneath t e valve F. In fact, I can manipulate the air from the outside, as well as the steam-laden airdto a nicety, so as to reduce the best cfiects in the proper coln ustion to produce a gas of a uniform and sup: rior uality. I am also enabled, as hereinbefore described tokeep the bed of the fire level by means oi the raised center of the bottom for the firebed and by changing the drafts of steam-laden air from center to side, or vice versa. 1 am also enabled to produce an equilibrium of boat from centerto side and rcvent air-channels from forming in the body of the l'i'n'l at the side and the de terioration in the uality of the gas reduced.
This case is a division of that tried by me June 7, 1905, No. 264,173.
What 1 claim as my invention isli In a gas-generator, the combination with the casing and fire-brick lining forming aifireepot or as-charnber, of a water-section superimposc on the top of the casing and leaving a space between the top of the fire brick and the bottom of the water-section and having gas-fines passing therethrough, and a central orifice extending therethrough, a suitable source of water-supply, a dome surmounting the water-jacket and having a central orifice registering with the central orifice in the water-jacket, a as-sup lye conduit extending therefrom am an ad ustable air-supply valve connnunicating with the interior of the water-jacket and extending in through the dome, a pipe or conduit extend: ing from the interior of the water-jacket down through the fire-brick to and communicating with the bottom of the firabed, a valve for closing the top of such pipe and means for manipulatin such valve as and for the purpose specific .2. In a as-generator, the combination with the caslng, and fire'brick lining forming a fire-pot or gas-chamber, of a water-section superimposec on the top of the casing and leaving a'space between the top of the firebrick and the bottom of the water-section and having gas-fines passing therethrough, and a central orifice extending therethrough, a suitable source of Water-supply, a dome surmountin the water-jacket and having a central ori ce registering with the central orifice in the Water-jacket, a gas-suppl conduit extending therefrom, an adjustable airsupply valve communicating with the interior of the water jacket and extending up through the dome, a'casing surrounding the bottom of the fire-bed, the annular chamber formed around the same into which the pipe aforesaid extends and the valve-controlled o ening extendin throu'h the easing into t e firebed from t 1e annu a'r chamber as and for the purpose specific WILLIAM HENRY GON'E.
