' Letters Patent No. 83,039, dated October 13, 1868.
C mLD'S PEDAL FOR PIANOS, 8w.
The Schedule referred in these Letters Patent and making part: of the lame.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL AIfrGUsr Ones s, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis, and State of Missouri, have made certain new and useful Improve- ;ments in Childs Pedal for-Pianos, &c.',- and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full and clear descriptlon'thereof, reference being-had to the accompanying drawings, and 'to the letters of reference marked thereon.
, The object of this invention is to construct a pedalat-tachment for pianos, nielodeons, and other like instruments, in such a manner thateven a small child, sitting on an ordinary piano-stool, can reach andoperrate the pedals as well and as easilyas an'adult person.
The device itself consists of a stool, on which the childs feet rest, and pressure-slides attached thereto in such a manner as to be readily coupled with the pedals of the instrument, and passing above the top of the stool. The top ends of the adiustableslides afi'ord the necessary footing for the operation of the pedals.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my improved pedal-attachment, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings represents a side elevation of the improved attachment.
Figure 2. is a plan of the same.
The stool consists of a foot-platform, A, resting on short legs, a, the height of the top of the stool being such that achjldsitting on an ordinary piano-stool can rest its feet on the foot-platform A.
.resting on the stool, and also on the slide-ends I), the
lower ends of the slides being secured to the pedals of the instrument by means of their hollowed bottom ends and the elastic straps G.
The stool gives a footing and rest to the child performer, and steadies it in its position, thus not only enabling it to sit more gracefully at the instrument, but also assisting it to perform more accurately, and then the employment of the slides B permits the introduction and use of the pedals at the very outset of a musical education.
Haring described my invention, What I claim, is, The stool A and the pedal-slides B, when employed as and for the plnpose described and set forth.
In testimony of which invention. I hereunto. set my hand in presence of- OARL AUGUST GLASS. Witnesses:
M. RANDOLPH, ROBERT BURNS.
