WITNESSES. INV NTOR j 'vsi fgaz ATTORNEYS CHARLES S. RYAN, KINSLEY, KANSAS.
CHURN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 28, 1906 I Application filed October 18,1905. Serial No. 283277.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, CHARLES S. RYAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kinsley, in the county of Edward and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Churns, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a rocking churn; and the object of the invention consists in journaling the churn-body so that a swinging motion can be given the same with but little manual labor.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the claim, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in'which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing both a handle and a pedal for operating the churn. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective showing the handle in detail. Fig. 3. is a vertical transverse section through the churn-supporting frame, the churn-body being in elevation and the handle being omitted.
By providing the churn with both a handoperated handle and a treadle the churn can be operated either sitting or standing.
In the drawings, 1 represents a pipe-frame comprising parallel members connected by suitable cross-pieces 2, the ends of which are fitted into T-couplings 3, carried by the members of the frame 1. The horizontal portions of the frame members 1 carry T-coup lings 4, which are provided with bushings 5, and in these bushings are rotatably held the outwardly-turned end portions 7 of U-shaped frames 6, these frames being two in number and being rotatably supported transversely between the frame members. One of the end portions 7 is extended through the bushing and has its outer end portions squared, as shown at 8. To this s uared portion is ri idly secured an upwardly-extending hand e 9 and a crank 10. .A pivoted link 11 connects the crank 10 to a foot-treadle 12, which is pivotally connected at one end to a member of the frame 1.
By means of this construction an easilyoperated churn is provided and one in which there are no expensive or complicated parts to break or require repairing.
A churn-body 13 of any desired construction is employed and rests on the U-shaped members 6 and is preferably provided with depending ears 14, through which the bow portions of the U-shapod members pass.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A churn comprising parallel tubular frames carrying T-couplings, cross-pieces fitted in said couplings, said tubular frames having horizontal portions also provided with T- couplings, bushings, in said last-mentioned couplings, U -shaped frames having outwardly-turned end portions, said end p01- tions being journaled in the bushings, one of said end portions being extended through one of the bushings, a handle thereon, and a churn-body supported by said U -shaped frames.
