HOPE-GRIP FOR SUSPENDED ROPE RAILWAYS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 21, 1906.
Application filed April 22, 1904. Serial No. ,3 8-
To all whom z, .nay concern:
Be it known that I, OSKAR BRIX, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at 10 Aeussere Halleschestrasse, Leipsic-Gohlis, in the Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope-Gri s for Suspended Rope Railways; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
- clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a rope-grip for suspended rope railways in which a wormspindle is employed in the usual manner for c amping the gripping-jaws together and the weight of the vehicle acts so as to operate the grippingqaws and it consists in suspending the vchic e from a lever fixed on the wormspindle and tending to close the on the haulingrope.
In. the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a transverse section, of the rope-grip.
In carrying out the invention the arm of a pivoted grippingjaw b, which cooperates with a fixed aw a, carries a toothed segment 6, which gears with the worm-spindle g, mounted to rotate in a trolley-frame d. On the worm-spindle a lever h is firmly keyed, and to this lever the hanging support or yoke k, which carries the vehicle, is pivotally suspended in such a manner that the weight of the vehicle tends constantly to turn the lever h downward, and thereby secures the pivoted clamping-jaw b in the clamping osition. 'fl'lhc lever h is provided at its 15% end with a; roller p, which when the vehicle is to be released from the hauling-rope runs onto a rail in the known manner.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Lettcrs Patent, is r 1. In a frictiomgrip, the combination with a traveling frame and rollers and a ropeclamp supported thereby, of an actuating screw-spindle for the rope-clamp and means for actuating the said spindle and to which the load is directly connected for support.
2. In a friction-grip, the combination with a traveling frame and rollers and a ropeclamp supported thereby, of an actuating screw-spindle for the rope-clamp, a crank connected to the screw-spindle, and an arm pivotally hung from the crank and to which the load is directly connected for support.
3. In a friction-grip, the combination with a frame and. rollers mounted therein, of a crank-arm, a screw-spindle actuated thereby, a gripping-jaw secured to the screw-s )indle, a fixed jaw, a hanger to which the 10a is attached, and a direct connection between the crank-armand the hanger.
4. In a rope-grip for suspended railways, a fixed clamping-jaw, a pivoted gripping-jaw cooperating with the fixed jaw to grip the rope, an arm or lever on the grippingjaw terminating in a toothed segment, a wormspindle gearing with said segment, a leverarm keyed on the worm-spindle, and supporting the vehicle in such a manner that the weight thereof tends to turn the worm-spindle which acting on the toothed lever causes the jaws to exert a uniform pressure on the rope both when traveling on inclines and on the level.
In testimony whereof I have ailixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OSKAR B R IZX.
