Be it known that I, EDWARD J. STEPHENS, of North Providence, inthe county of Providencefin'the State 'of Rhode Islend, have invented an "Improved Method of Printing Yarn 3 and I do hereby declare that the following is o full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. y
The nature of my invention consists in providing a. method by which yarn passing between two iluted orv ribbed rollers is printed with a. variety of distinct colors, separated from each other by intervening spaces.-
To enable others skilled in the Aart to make and use my invention, I willldescribe itsconstrnction and operation.
I construct underneath each of seid fluted or ribbed` rollers as mon'y'colorfboxes as I want colors on the yarn, each with a. color-roller revolving in it, and between each color-roller and the uted or ribbed rollers that print lthe yarn, a color-carrier, with flutes or ribs on it, which come first in contact with the'color-roller, and f then, with the ribbed or ilutedrollcrs, printing vthe yarn. Said color-carriers are moved by means of gears attached to the`sha`t ofthe colors printing the yarn. ,The color-rollers are move-fl by means-of ebelt or`gea`rs connected with' the color-carriers.
