UNITED STATES PATENT oEEioE.
ALBERT FRANK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO FARKAS WEISZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
' NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 14, 1906.
To all whom it may-concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT FRANK, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at New York city, Manhattan, county and State of'New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a non-refillable bottle provided with a valve-carrying frame which is axially rotatable within the bottleneck and automatically sets the valve to its operative position whenever the bottle is tilted.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the neck of a bottle embodying my invention and showing the same in an upright position. Fig. 2 is a side view of the valve mechanism, taken at right angles to Fig. 1 Fig. 3, a horizontal section on line 3 3, Fig. 2; Fig. 4, a longitudinal section through the neck, showing the position of the parts when the bottle is tilted; Fig. 5, a section through the valve mechanism, showing the position of the parts when the bottle is placed horizontally; and Fig. 6, a bottom view of the valve-seat.
Within the neck of a bottle is inclosed a tubular bushin composed of an upper sleeve 11 and a lower sleeve 12, between which is fitted a perforated guard 13. To the bottom of sleeve 12 is secured a ring 14, constituting a valve-seat and provided with spring-catches 15, that enter a groove 16 of neck 10, so as to lock the device to the bottle. Between the bushing 11 12 and neck 10 is interposed a cork lining 17, surmounted by a flanged annular top plate 18, fastened to the bushing. A tapering shell 19, supported on uard 13 and engaged by top, platelS, serves or the accommodation of the stopper.
From the center of guard 13 depends a pivot 20, having a head 21. Upon this pivot is free to rotate an L-shaped frame composed of a normally horizontal arm 22 and a normally vertical arm 23. Of these the arm 22 has a hub 24 engaging pivot and carries a counterweight 25 at its free end. The ver tical arm 23 is forked, and to its lower end is pivoted at 26 a clack-valve 27, adapted to close against seat 14. This valve is weighted diametrically opposite its pivot, as at 28. Upon arm 22 is adapted to be supported a curved lever 29, having a centrally-depending lug 30, which is straddled by arm 23 and is pivoted thereto above valve 27, as at 31. The free ends of lever 29 extend to the sides of arm 22 and carry weights 32. From lug 30 depends a finger 33, adapted to engage valve 27 and hold it to its seat 14.
When the bottle' is in an upright position, valve 27 will close against seat 14 and lever 29 will be swung down to rest upon arm 22, Fig. 1. When the bottle is tilted, weight 28, coacting with weight 25, will cause frame 22 23 to turn upon fulcrum 20 axially within the bottle until the weighted or free portion of the valve faces downward. After the valve has assumed this position it will swing outward to permit the escape of the liquid, the lever 29 participating in this movement,.Fig. 4. When the bottle is placed in a horizontal position, the lever 29 will be swung inward by weights 32, Fig. 5, and will close valve 27 by finger 33. I
What I claim is 1. A non-refillable bottle provided with a weighted frame axially rotatable within the bottle-neck, and with a valve pivoted to said frame, substantially as specified.
2. A non-refillable bottle provided with a weighted frame axially rotatable within the bottle-neck, and with a weighted valve pivoted to said frame, substantially as specified.
3. A non-refillable bottle provided with a weighted axially-rotatable frame, a valve and a weighted lever pivoted to the frame, and a finger on the lever that is adapted to engage the valve, substantially as specified.
4. A non-refillable bottle provided with a perforated guard, a pivoted L-shaped weighted frame, a valve and a weighted lever pivoted to the frame, and a finger on the lever which is adapted to engage the valve, substantially as specified.
Signed by me at New York city, Manhattan, New York, this 26th day of May, 1906.
ALBERT FRANK.
