Description

SMITH S. B ROWN, OF WOONS'OOKET, RHODE ISLAND.
.Leners Paten: No; 82,796; dated october 6,1868.
- IMPBOVBD commu-FIXTURE.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAYCONCERN:
Be it known that I, SMITH S. BROWN, of Weonsocket,l in the county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and valuable Improvementin GurtainFixtures; and' I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description of thel'censtruction and operation' of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a partof this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked'thereon. l
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of an external view of myvdevice, and
Figures 2 and 3 are details.
invention relates to that class of devices which are used for moving and sustaining window-curtains when in use.
The letter A of the drawings represents the window-frame upon which my device is placed. Letter B is the roller on which the curtain is wound. This roller has its bearings, at each end, in' upright ears attached to the movable head-plates, next mentioned, respectively.
Letter C'is a slotted head-plate, attached to the window-frame by a thumb-scremd, and serves the purpose of providing ready means for attaching and detaching roller B. i
Letter D is also a slotted plate attached t o the'side of the window-frame by a thumb-scre\v, e. It is pivoted at its extreme upper end to a head-plate, E, set at right angles therewith, and serves the purpose of providing means, in connection with plate C, of attaching anddetaching the roller, and also, in conjunction with plate-0,.
of providing means for moving said roller upward or downward a`t will.
Letter G is a slotted plate attached to the'window-fra-me, near the bottom of the Window, and on one side thereof. It has a thumb-screw, marked h, by which it is held to the frame, and it is also pivoted to the swinging plate O, that holds the pulley-wheel for the cord at its low'er end. j v
Letter Y is a pulley-wheel, adjusted as shown, and which, in conjunction with a suitable groove on the end of roller B, serves to hold and regulate the movements of the cord V. This cord V is adjusted in the marmer shown and deseribed,'and when so adjusted, provides the means by which the operator raises or lowers the curtain.
It will'readily bc seen that, by means of the sliding grooved platesabove mentioned, and their respective thumb-screws, the operator has i-t in his power to tighten or loosen the curtain to almost any extent he may desire, without any of the difficulties attending the ordinary mechanism dsed for that purpose.
The great merit of my invention consists mainly in' the cheapness and simplicity of its construction and operation,l and in the perfect manner in which its work is accomplished.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A fixture for window-curtains, having roller B, slotted plates C, D, and G, withftheir respective thumb-v screws, hea l-plate E, swinging plate O, pulley Y, and cord V, constructed, combined,.andarranged substantially as herein specified. A v
In testimonythat I claim theabove, I have hereunto subscribedmy name in the presence of two witnesses.
SMITH S. BROWN.
