Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom t may concern:

Beit known that I, MAGNUs NILL, a subject of the King of Sweden, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State ofNew York, have invented a new and Improved CigarCase, of which the following is a Jfull, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to a cigar-case or similar receptacle, the principal objects being to provide a combination of lock and cigar cutter and to improve articles of this character in certain respects, as will appear below.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indie cate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure l is a perspective view of a cigarcase, showing the pinciple of my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of a portion of the same, showing parts in locking position. Fig. 3 is an interior view showing parts in section, the device being unlocked. Fig, 4 is a sec-- tional view on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1.

I have shown a cigarcase comprising a holder aj of the usual form and provided with a plate l), having an upwardly-turned projec tion c thereon, adapted to be employed in locking the case. With the holder is connected a flap d, constituting a cover for the case. This flap is provided with a pocket d for holding matches, and at the outer end of the cover or iiap is mounted a doubled strip of metal e, serving as means for binding the edges of the cover. This strip of metal is secured to the cover by any convenient meansas, for example, rivets e. Inwardly-extending projections e2, formed by stamping the metal, are employed to guide a sliding bar g. This binding-strip is provided with an opening c3, through which appears a match-striker f. It is also provided with an opening c4 of a general circular form, but having a notch e5. Within the folds of the binding-sheet is placed the sliding bar g. This bar is provided with a notch g upon the upper or outer side thereof, which is adapted to slide along the notch e5 when the cover is placed in closed position, as is indicated in Figs. 2 and 4, so as to engage the projection c and lock the cover to the holder. On the lower side of the bar g, at its outer end, is an inclined blade g2, which is adapted to slide across the opening e4 and serve as a cigar-cutter. At the rear of the bar g is a projection g3 to limit its motion inwardly. A iiap 7L is preferably provided for closing the pocket d It will be obvious that the construction of a cigar-holder in this manner provides the most convenient and eifective locking and cigar-cutting operation without the use of a large number of movable elements.

The simplicity and effectiveness of the device will be obvious, as well as the convenient arrangement of the various parts.

Having thus described my invention, I claiml. A cigar-case having a cutter provided with a binding-sheet, said binding-sheet having a perforation adapted to receive the end of a cigar, said perforation having a notch for receiving a device to be locked, and a bar lo'- cated in said binding-sheet and provided with a blade for sliding across said opening, the rear surface of said blade being adapted to simultaneously move across a portion of said notch for locking purposes.

A cigar-case comprising a holder having a bent projection and a cover, said cover be ing provided with a binding element bent over the front and rear sides of its outer edge, said binding element having a circular opening provided with a notch, and a bar slidablv mounted within said binding element, said bar having a blade adapted to cross said circular opening, the rear of said blade simultaneously passing through said notch and the blade having a notch at the rear, whereby the blade will engage the projection on the holder and locking case thereto.
