FENCE-POST.
Specification of Letters Patent.
A lication fil d March 17, 1906. Serial No. 306,636-

the post, and has for its objects to produce a comparatively simple inexpensive device of this character wherein the wires may be positioned in any desired spaced relation, one 1n which the wireholding members will be firmly and securely engaged with the post, and one in which the members may be con veniently disengaged from the post when desired to permit altering of the positions of the wires.
- With these and other objects in'view the invention comprises the novel features of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafterdescribed. A
In the'accompanying drawings, 'Fi ure 1 is a detail perspective view of a post em odying of one of the attaching members.
the invention and showing the manner of securing the line-wires thereto. Fig. 2 is a horizontal'section taken on a line centrally Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the component parts of the retaining member disconnected.
ig. 4 is a similar view of a ortion of the retaining member, showing t e parts thereof therein duringthe molding operation a plu rality of longitudinal strengthening elements or rods 2, disposed, respectively, at the corners of the post.
Embedded in and extending longitudinally of the post 1 is a retaining member 3, composed of sheet metal and comprising a p primary portion or section 4 and a secondary portion or section 5, designed to lie in contact with one face of the sectionA and having transverse ribs or ooves 6, forming transverse 0 enings or c annels 7, the outer ends of whic open at the normally front face of the post 1, there being providedat the inner I ends of the opening 7, which constitute seats for the rece tion of engaging members 8, a longitudinal y-extending channel 9, formed by bending one longitudinal edge of the sec tion 4 in a tubular form, as shown. It will be noted in this connection thatthe transverse openings or seats 7 communicate at their inner ends with the channelQ and that in bending the member 4 to form the channel the same is folded over the inner edge of the member 5. I
The engaging members 8 each comprise a suitable length of wire or the like provided at its outer end with an engaging portion or hook 10, adapted to receive a line-wire or other element 11 of the fencing material for securing the same to the post and having at its inner end a.curved portion or head 12, disposed within the channel 9 and serving to prevent escape of the fastening member.
In practice the sections 4 and 5 of the member 3 are pro erly positioned relatively and embedded in t e post during the casting operation. The fencing-wires 11 are attached to the post by means of the members 8, which when driven into the openings 7 contact at their recessed ends with the curved wall of the channel 9, thus forming the curved retaining portion or head 12, which prevents accidental escape of the engaging members from the o enings 7, it being understood, however, tl iat when necessary the members 8 may be forcibly withdrawn to permit detachment of the wires 11 from the post.
' Having thus Iclaim is A fence-post having a retaining member embedded therein an comprising a pair of described my invention, what cooperating sections, one of said sections be-
