GUSTAV HENSCH, OF LEIPSIC, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR 'IO THE FIRM OF ERNST HOLZWEISSIG NACHI?, OF LEIPSIC, GERMANY.
GRAMOPHONE.'
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 10, 1906.
Application filed August 8, 1904. Serial No. 220,007.`
To (0H zehn/nf 'if 71mg/ mince-rn:
Be it known that I, GUsTAv HENSCH, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Einperor, residinv at Leipsic, Saxony, Germany, have invente new and useful Improvements in Phonographs, Grainophones, and Like lnstrunients7 of which thefollowing is a description. w
The present invention relates ,to phonographs and similar instruments; and its object is to locate the trumpet of these instruments so that it shall be out of the wayand less subject to damage and to injury of the other parts of the instrument bybeing run against or unintentionally'striicl,as often happens when the trumpet is arranged inthe exposed osition common to most apparatuses of the class hitherto known.
The invention -also comprisesi the connection of the diaphraUin-arm to the end ofthe trumpet, so as to allow of. the free movement of the latter when the trumpet is stationary.
In order to render the present s ecication easily intelligible., reference is ha tothe accompanying drawings, inwhich similar ,letters of reference denote similar parts throughi out both the views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in seetion; and Fig. 2,21 plan of the device.
The phonograph or talking-machine coinpriscs a motor-casing a with record-supports thereon. Below the motor-casing there is a lower casing h, permanently `attached there` to and forming a support for said motor-casing, which rests uponsaine. A trumpetpor horn c is connectedY to a sound-conveyor e, carrying a reprodueer, which isadapted to` move across the recordsup|mrt. f'llhe horn c is turned downwardly and, around and-is supported within the said lower `orr horn casingr and has its Iiared endlocated in the open end ol' same. In order to reduce the height of the housing or lower casing h of thehorn, the lai-ver portion of said ,horn ortrumpet passes horizontally through the Said casing. The small and upperpart-of the hornelsup# ports a ring g, and upon this rinur is mounted an elbow 1', the outer ond of whifli is ,fiared to forni a socket d to receive `the ball forniedon the contiguous endl of the dia ihrag-mfarm or sound-conveyor e. l"The bali-shaped end of the soundconveyer e has at each side an armf, pivotally attached at the center of the l continued use.
lveyer, an
ball and having its free end pivoted to the ringvg, which encircles the end of the horn below the flared top end of same. Thus a ball-andsocket connection is provided which permits of a vertical-movement of. the soundconveyer e. The horizontal swinging imove1 ment of` the .soundconveyer e is eie'cted by rotating said conveyer about the-axis of the upper end ofthe horn c b means of said arm f and ,ring Ig. In the v movable connectionl is providedbetween the vsoundfconveyer e4 and the horno which permits of. a verticaland horizontal movement of the .saidconveyen while thehornlitself re` mainsstationary." V ,Y
The above-described arrangement and lo-, cation.4 of the trumpet enablesfthe-ern loy ment of muchiarger trumpetsthan' y v, hitherto been emplo 'ed,so. that the tone of the instrument may y e iin rcve'dwithout re, yquiringfany more room* or theformer, as.
Awould be the case if the trumpetswere located above orat the side of the casing. `v,The loca- 'tion of the trumpet within the casing renders the instrument less Vliable to inju and therefore few or no repairs are require ,which makes the instrumentless, expensive during The complete apparatus 0ccupies but littleroomiwhennot inuse and during. transportation or storage.`
Having thus described hmy invention, I
, claim as new and desire to secure by-Letters Patentg 1. A talkingflnachine comprisinqA a. motorcasing, `a record-support thereon, a 'ower cas'- inghupozn lwhich Said motor-camu rests,v a soinuI-conveyer carrying y avrefpro ucer arranged to nieve across the record-support, a
,horn `mounted ,within tlielow'er casing and su portingsaid sound-conveyer and` a, movable connection between said sound-conhorn to, permit verticaland AhoriL zontal movements of said sound-conveyor.
2. talking-machine coniprisin a motorcasingareeordfsupport thereon, a ower casingl upon l which said ginotor-casin L rests,y a sound-conveyor carrying a repro neer ar- `rangedc-o nieve acrossnthe record-sup ort andluivingml ball-shapedI end provide at each side ,with a downwardrin. ivotally attached at the center of said bal a homniounted within the lower casing,.a ring supported by the upper part. of the horn, an eleseribed v-manner a' IOO bow mountedupon the ring and having an In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my ollllte llaedfeadmo' 1florm L sooet to receive hand in presence of two witnesses.
