Be it known that I, ELBERT O. HAsKINs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rutherford, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Hinge and Catch Plates for Boilers and Furnaces, of which the following is a specification.

Each of these plates carries a lug formed therewith, either with a hole for the 'nge pin or as a catch for the latch or nosing of the door.

In the drawings, Figure l is an elevation of a section at one end of a steam or hot-water boiler for the purpose of illustrating the application of my invention. In forming these parts of cast metal I provide thickened portions a or, in other words, parts at either one or both sides of a dooraperture that are thickened, both longitudinally and vertically, at a, and these parts are provided with dovetail slots from the edges inward opening in the surface of the metal, wherein the same form recesses open to the edges of the door-aperture. Each of these plates is formed with a lug, the lug d of the hinge-plate 0 being provided with a hole for the hinge-pin of the door and the catch-plate 0 provided with a lug (Z in the form of acatch for the latch or nosing of the door.

WVhile the hinge and catch plates are respectively in the said dovetail slots, it is the purpose of my invention to ship from the place of manufacture to the place of sale and destination the sections or shell of a steam or hot-water boiler or hot-air furnace with said hinge and catch plates separate, and after the furnace or boiler is set up then to place the hinge or catch plates in position for use. In this way risk of breakage is reduced to a minimum, and as the parts are interchange able there is no necessity of fitting these plates to place in the factory. After the boiler or furnace is set up and the hinge or catch plates placed in the grooves and drivenhome to position for use the said parts quickly rust together, so that it is substan tially impossible to remove them and they become to all intents and purposes for use an integral structure.

The combination With the cast-metal body or section of a steam or hot-Water boiler or hot-air furnace having Walls thickened both vertically and horizontally on the inner surface and at predetermined said places provided With. dovetail slots from the edges inward forming recesses in the surthe edges of the door-aperture, of hinge and catch plates which agree in dimensions With the longitudinal and cross-sectional configurations of such slots so that they are Wider across their rear surface than across their outer surface and adapted to be received therein, and lugs formed With and upon the outer surface of said hinge and catch plates provided With holes for the hinge-pin or as a catch for the latch or nosing of the door.
