Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 3, 1906.
Application filed November 13,1905. Serial No. 287,081.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SUMMERS BROWN, residing at 40 Whitecross street, London, England, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Frames for Use with Rotary Duplicating or Printing Machines and the Like; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention consists in an improved detachable frame for use with rotary duplicating or printing machines operated by hand or power and fitted with an automatic feeding device or otherwise.
The great difficulty with rotary duplicating or printing machines having automatic feedin devices as at resent constructed is that t e absolute feed of one sheet only at a time to the printing-roller cannot always be relied upon, two or more sheets being frequently delivered, involving much loss of time and waste of aper. My invention when attached to the eeding-board of such machines as are suitably constructed for my urpose entirely overcomes this difficulty.

The 0 eration of my invention will be understoo by means of the diagrammatic view shown in dotted lines and forming art of Fig. 2, which view is merely insertefi 'to make clear such operation and may vary in many ways, depending upon. the particular make of the du licator or printing-machine and the feeding evice to which it may be attached. 9 is the printing-cylinder, 10 the grippingroller, and 11 the feeding-arm pivoted at 12, to which a rocking motion may be imparted by any suitable means for feeding the sheet.
The upper sheet 3" of the paper to be printed,
3, is always below the level of the edge of stop 5, forming the end of the frame 4. When the feeding-arm 11 or its equivalent device, depending upon the make of the machine, engages with the sheet 3*, it is forced forward against the edge of the stop 5 and is first slightly bent upward, as at 3", and then releasim itself from the edge 5 is forced forward between the roll-cylinder 9 and gripping-roller 10, the effect being that only one sheet at a time can be fed to the printing-cylinder, the frame sinking toward the feedingboard as the sheets are used and its alinenient being preserved by the stop and pins or equivalent securing the same to the feedboard.
W'hat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination with a rotary duplicator or printing-machine fitted with an automatic feeding-board, a detachable frame formed with a front stop and resting upon the top sheet of the paper to be printed, the widened openin behind said stop and means for securing saifl frame to the feeding-board in the way and manner described.
2. In combination with a rotary duplicator or printing-machine, a frame having a stop, the height of which is automatically adjusted by the number of sheets of paper and maintained by the sinking of the frame as said sheets are fed forward in the way and manner described.
