Be it known that I, TH oDo-R-n W. Fos'rnn,

:a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county'of Providenceand State ofRhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bracelets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has r 'ferenceto an improvement in bracelets, and more particularly to an improvement in concealed hinges for bracelets.

The object of my invention is to improve the construction of a concealed hinge for bracelets whereby the interlocking hinge pivotally secured together under spring tension Without the use of the nsual pintle, and the hinge has a limited opening movement.

My invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction of a concealed hinge-for bracelets, with details of construction, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.

Figure 1 is a side view of a two-part bracelet provided with my improved concealed hinge and showing the bracelet in the closed position in full lines and in the 0 en position in broken lines. Fig. 2 is an enl arged detail sectional view of the hinge end of the bracelet looking at the outside face of the hinge. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2 through the hinge and adjacent ends of the bracelet and show- Fig. 4. is an enlarged detail sectional view similar to Fig. 3 and showing the hinge in the open osition. My improved concealed hinge e consists of two identical interlocking members e e.

These-members e e are shaped to fit in the ends-c" and (Z of the bracelet and curved to conform to the contour of the bracelet, as shown in Figs. 3 and 6. Each member 6 is constructed integral to have a solid end 6 from which extends a rigid arm 6 cut away at e to form acentral arm e having on its inner face a groove 6 adjacent its end =at=its end. The inner end of the'lip 6 forms a stop-shoulder-e and-in formingthe groovee and the lip e a raised portion 6 and a depressed portion a are formed in the inner face of the arm a as shown in Figs. 5 and 6. A spring side arm 6 extends from thesolid end 6 parallel with the arm c and forms a space 0 as shown in Fig. 5. The center on which the groove e and the lip e is struck coincides with the center on which the hinge opens. a

The two membersof the hinge are assembled by forcing the central arms e e of each ,member into the spaces e 6 (against the tension of the spring-arms e e) and'bringing the arms into a position for the lip e e to enter the coinciding grooves e c with the hinge members on acurved line with each other, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The members of the hinge are now forced into the ends 0 and d of the bracelet into a position for the center on which the hinge opens to coincide with the juncture of the ends 0 and d of the bracelet. The solidends e c of the hinge members are now secured in the ends 0 and. d of the bracelet by solder or other means.

The hinge is limited in its opening movement by the-stop-shoulders e c on the inner ends of the lips e e engaging with each other, as shown in broken lines in Fig. 4. The tension of the spring-arms e e on the arms 6 6 tends to firmly hold the lips e e in the grooves e e and compensates for wear on the coinciding faces of the arms 6 e Also the comparatively large faces of the raised portions e e, engaging with the faces of the depressed portions 6 8 practically eliminates wear on the faces of the lips e 6 thereby providing a bracelet with a concealed hinge that is not liable to wear the ends 0 and d alinement.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and Patent 1.
