UNIVERSAL SUPPORTING CLAMP. APPLICATION FILED NOV.14,'1904. RENEWED MAY 22, 1906 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HORACE JONES, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO. UNIVERSAL SUPPORTING- CLAI VIP- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 19, 1906.
Application filed November 14, 1904. Renewed May 22,1906. Serial No. 318,228.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HORACE D. JoNEs, a
- citizen of the United States, residing at Oin- Clam s and I do declare the following to be a full, ear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the vertical posltion.
art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in sup orting-clamps.- I I he object of the invention is to provide a clamp of this character which may be .attached to a support in a horizontal or vertical position and to which may be attached arms or brackets for display or other purposes.
" With thisand other objects inview the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and clalmed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device showing the same applied to a supporting rod or bar in a horizontal position. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same, the supporting-rod being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the device supported in a vertical position. Fig. 4; is a vertical sectional view through the clamp on a line with the set-screw and looking toward the rear side of the display-arms, and Fi 5 is a detail fragmentary sectional view 0 the block, showing the manner of attaching the display-arms.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the universal clamping-block,
' which may be of any suitable shape, but which is here shown as of cylindrical form. In one of the fiat sides or ends of the block is formed a transversely-disposed groove or channel 2,
and in the curved side of the same is formeda longitudinally-disposed channel or passage 3, which intersects the groove or channel 2. In the curved side of 'the block, at right angles to the passages 2 and 3, is arranged a set-screw 4, which is adapted to be screwed through the side of the block into the assage 2 and in line with the inner end of t e passage or channel 3.
By means of the channels or passages 2 and 3 the clamping-block may be engaged with a suitable support, either in a horizontal or a The su port here "shown is in the form of a vertical y-disposed rod or bar 5, with which the clamping-bar is engaged in a horizontal position, as shown in Figs. 1
and 2, and in a vertical position, as shown in Fig. 3, and in both of which positions the set,-"
screw 4 is screwed through the side of the block and into engagement with the rod or I bar 5, thereby holding said block in its adjusted position on the same.
In the curved side of the clamping-block are formed radially-disposed threaded openings 6, in which are screwed the ends of radially-disposed display-arms 7. On the outer ends of the arms 7 are formed rings 8 to support the articles to be displayed.
11While I have Oehovlvn and descriped radia y- PIOJGOtlIlg 1sp ayarms as eing a plied to the clamping-block 1, it is obviofis that any suitable bracket, arm, or fixture may beappliedlto the same to adapt it to be used for various purposes and in connection with display-racks and gas and electric-light fixtures. The device is so constructed asto permit the same to be applied to supports of any material, and which may itself be formed of any suitable material.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the constructionand operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A universal supporting-clamp of the character described, consisting of a block having formed therein grooves or channels whereby the'same may be applied to a suitable support in a horizontal or vertical position, a set-screw to hold' said block in osition on said sup ort, and radially-projecting bracket-arms a apt ed to be screwed into en agement with said clamping-block, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit-
