muss.
To all whom it may concern):
Beit known that I, AsHBEL P. BARLOW, a
citizen of theUnited States, residing at St.
Joseph, county of Berrien, State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Trusses; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact'des'criptio'n of 'the. invention, such *as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. p The object of this invention is to provide a truss for the treatment of hernia or rupture which is simple in construction, easily applied,
and capable of adjustment to suit various conditions. Y i I In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is an elevation showing the back of the truss. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the front offthe truss. Fig. 3 is a horizontal central sectional view.
Referring to the drawings, 5 represents two truss-pads which are connected and supported by a bowed plate 6, of spring metah This v plate is provided at its ends with a series of holes 7 to receive a threaded bolt 8, which is screwed in the pad'andprojects, outward angularlyfrom the back of the pad. The plate is secured on the bolt bya screw-nut 9, which inturn is held 'in place by a lock-nut 10. The series of holes in {the plate enable the adjustment of the pad longitudinally of the plate,
so thatthe pads can be arranged in proper position to meet the requirements of the wearer.
An adjusting-screw 11 projects through an opening in the plate located between the center of the plate and the bolt 8 and this screw is arranged at an angle to the pad and bears upon the back thereof. .The nut 12 is arranged on the screw 11 between the plate and the pad to bear against theplate for holding the screw in position, and it maybe adjusted to maintain the pad in any angular position that may be found desirable.
pads is provided with adjusting-devices of the kind heretofore described.
The truss isprovided with hooks 13, buckles 14, and rings 15, to which are attached Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed June 1,1905. Serialllo. 263,359.

the straps for securing the truss on the wearer.
The pad 5 comprises a bulb 16,which is held by the screw bolt 8 on thedisk 17 and inclosed within a bead18. This bulb may be made either plain, as shown in the trusspad at the right of Fig. 2 or transversely corrugated, as shown at the left of Fig. 2, the advantage of the corrugated bulb being that the corrugations will more effectually hold the intestines in place.
Having thusfully described my invention,
what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A truss comprising a bowed spring-plate provided ateach endwith a series of openings 1 disposed longitudinally of the plate, a trusspad carriedby the plate at its ends, said pad comprising a disk, a bulb, a bead on the disk surrounding the bulb, a screw-bolt screwed through the back of the .diskand into the. bulb, said screw-bolt being arranged in one of the openings in the plate, and a nut and a lock-nut on the bolt to fasten thepad, the bolt and the plate together.
2. A truss comprising .a bowed spring-plate 'provided'at each end with a series of openings disposed longitudinallyof ,theplate, a truss pad carried by the plate at its ends, and comprising a disk and a bulb, a screw-bolt pass ing throughthe disk and screwed into the.
bulb, said bolt being arranged in one of the openings in the plate, a nut and a lock-nut on the bolt tofasten the pad, the bolt and the plate together, an adjusting-screwpassing an- Witnesses: PETER GKNIEBES,
