Be it known that I, LEE F. I-IAMMER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Preventing the Deceptive Refilling of Bottles 5 and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suoli as ywill enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in bottles and my object is to produce such a bottle as, when it is once emptied, cannot again be refilled without the same being detected, thus preventing spurious goods from being put into bottles supposed to contain goods of a higher or different quality. This object I accomplish by an addition to the bottle which must be removed before the bottle can be emptied and which when removed cannot again be attached to the same bottle, thus showing it to have been opened.

Referring to the drawings, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.

Figure l is a side elevation of my device, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same.

1 designates the neck of the bottle provided with a cork 2.

3 is an addition to the top of the neck l, molded integral therewith and provided with two notches 4, disposed radially from each other, said notches opening into the interior of the said addition, thus leaving but small points of connection with the neck l, said points of connection being designated by the numeral 5.

6 is a groove following the interior periphery of the addition 3.

7 is a non-adhesive wad inserted in the neck l above the cork 2 and adapted to lie just flush with the top of the said neck l.

8 is a glass stopple provided with a cap 9 and a groove 10, following. the periphery of said stopple just below the cap 9 and being of sufficient length to coincide with the groove 6 when said stopple is inserted in the part 3, the said cap overlapping the top of said addiv tion 3.

`In using the bottle'the same is :filled and then the cork 2 is inserted int'o the addition 3 until the bottom of the groove l() is below the top of said addition. The said groove 10 is filled with glass-cement 1l and then the stopple 8 is forced down until the cap 9 iits snugly over the part 3. The cement then runs into the groove 6, thus locking the stopple 8 in said part 3, and to remove the contents of the bottle the part 3 must be broken off at the points 5.

I have now entered into a detailed description of the construction and arrangement of partsembraced in the present and preferred embodiment of my invention.

I do not desire, however, to be understood as confining myself to such detail, as many changes may be made in practice as fairly fall within the scope of my claims.

I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. In a device as described a neck proper, an addition molded integral with the top thereof, said addition being provided with two notches disposed radially from each other leaving small connecting-points with said neck, a groove following the interior periphery of said addition, a stopple inserted in said addition, a cap on the top of said stopple overlapping the top of said addition, said stopple provided with a groove following the periphery thereof just under said cap and coinciding with said first-named groove, and cement in said grooves, as set forth.

2. In a bottle a neck proper, a removable addition molded to the top thereof, said addition being provided with a groove following the interior periphery thereof, a cork in said neck, a stopple arranged in said addition and provided with an overlapping cap fitting over the top of said addition, said stopple being also provided with a groove following the periphery thereof and coinciding with the said first-named groove, said grooves being filled with cement, as set forth fully herein.
