To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD W. AUsTEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oswego, in the county of Oswego and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to bottles; and its object is to provide a device of this character of that class equally partitioned, so as to form separate compartments in which different liquids, pills, '&c., may be placed without danger of either affecting or becoming mixed with the other. The device is therefore particularly adapted for holding homeopathic remedies and can be readily carried within the vest-pocket.

Another object is to provide a bottle of this character which can be readily formed and which is inexpensive in construction.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of a tube having a neck at each end for the reception of a cork or other stopper, and at a point adjacent the center of the tube is formed an annular depression forming -a contracted opening. This opening is adapted to receive a cork or other stopper which can be readily inserted through one of the necks and forced into and held in place by frictional contact with the walls of the contracted opening.

The invention also consists of certain other novel features of construction and co'mbinations of. parts hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings I have shown the preferred form of my invention.

In said drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of my improved compound bottles, each compartment thereof being shown containing medicine. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the bottle.

Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 and 2 are oppositely-extending portions of a tube, which are spaced apart at their inner ends by an integral contracted portion 3, forming a reduced opening 4,

adapted to be closed in anysuitable manner,

and the neck of the member 1 is shown provided with a cork stopper 7, while the other neck is threaded, so as. to be engaged by a screw-cap 8. Where this bottle is to be used for holding two diflerent kinds of material,

the stopper 5 is inserted through one of the necks 6 and forced into the contracted opening 4;, Where it will be held by frictional contact with the walls of said opening. Said stopper therefore serves to effectually seal the opening 4, and any material placed in one o the members 1 and 2 cannot pass into the other member and become mixed with the contents thereof. The upper member 1 can then be filled and its closure 7 placed in position, after which the entiredevice is inverted and the other part filled.

It will be seen that this compound bottle can be readily carried within a vest-pocket, and the contents of either portion thereof can be readily removed as desired. It will be seen that the bottle is particularly adaptedfor use as a receptacle for homeopathic remedies, which are often administered in pairs to be taken alternately. It will be seen that the bottle can be readily formed at slight cost and constitutes a compact medicine-holder. While I' have referred to this device as being particularly adapted for holding medicines of different kinds, it will be understood that it can be-used as a receptacle for perfumes or, in fact, any other materials.

Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
