VEHICLE-SEAT LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented my 22, 1906.
Application filed March 24,1904. Serial No. 199,701.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY O. SWAN, of
Oshkosh, in the county of Winnebago and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Vehicle-Lock, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accom anying drawings, forming part of this speci cation, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showin a portion of a carriage-body and seat provi ed with my improved lock. Fig. 2 is an enlarged front elevation of the lock or fastener, partly broken away. Fig. 3 is'a sectional side elevation of the same, and Fig. 4 is an inner face view of the eccentric lever.
My invention relates to the class of seat looks or fasteners, and is designed to provide a simple, strong, and easily-operated device.
In the drawings, 2 represents a verticallyextending rod having a hooked upper end 3 and provided with a lower screw-threaded portion 4. This screw-threaded portion enters the internally-screw-threaded collar portion 5 of an open yoke having legs 6 6, projecting upwardly from an eccentric-strap 7. The lower bracket portion 8, which is secured to the sill member of the buggy or vehicle, is provided with an open yoke 9, having an upper vertical plate 10, provided with a forwardly-projecting hollow hub 11. The eccentric 12 is formed asa lateral projection of the disk 13, carrying the operatinghandle 14. This disk is provided with a pair of stops 15, arranged to engage a stop-lug 16 on the eccentric-strap to limit the movement of the eccentric.
The arts are assembled in the manner shown m Figs. 2 and 3, the eccentric fitting within the strap and around the hub 11. The parts are then held in position by a bolt 17, extending through the hollow hub 11 and having the removable nut 17. The hook 3 of the lock engages an attachment on the seat, which is preferably a recessed lug 18,
projecting from a bracket 19, secured to the seat 20. By throwing the eccentric in one direction (toward the right in the form shown) the lock is lengthened, so that the hook-rod may be swung over the lug 18. The lever is then thrown to the left until the stops engage, thus locking the attachment, as shown indFigs. 1 and 2, by drawing down the hookro The advantages of my invention result from the simplicity and cheapness of the con struction. The parts with the exception of the hook-rod may be cast and do not require any machining. It will be noted that there is no projecting lever or link which swings at an angle to the plane of the attachment, the actuating-lever swinging through a plane parallel to plane of the device.
Many variations may be made in the form and arrangement of the parts without departing from my invention.
The device may also be used for wagonbodies and other locations, and I intend to cover same in my claim.
A vehicle-seat lock comprisin a lower bracket having avertical plate with a hollow hub supported by and projecting laterally therefrom, and an upper portion arranged to engage the seat and provided with a lower eccentric-strap having a stop thereon, a handlever having a lateral eccentric fitting within the strap around the hollow hub and provided with stops, and a bolt extending through the hollow hub and eccentric and holding the parts in position; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
HENRY C. SWAN. Witnesses:
Enron KATH, B. 0. Norman.
