Description

PATENTED MAY 22, 1906.
C. P. T. ROUX.
DOUGHE APPARATUS.
APPLIOATION IILED mm 27, 1905.
I mmm's UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DOUCHE APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 22, 1906.
Application filed June 2'7, 1905. Serial No. 267,316.
To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that 1, CHARLES PIERRE Trin- OPHILE RoUx, doctor of medicine, a citizen of the Republic of France, and a resident of Niort, France, have invented new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Douche Apparatus, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification.
The present invention relates to an im proved form of douche apparatus which enables persons using it to give themselves shower-baths, jet-douches, dorsal, pectoral, and all other kinds of douches, as desired.
In order that the description may be as clear as possible, a douche according to this invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, which shows a plan of the whole apparatus arranged horizontally.
The douche apparatus according to the present invention chiefly comprises a flexible pipe a, made of rubber or the like and provided with a union-piece b, which can be screwed or fixed in any other suitable manner to the tap a of a waterpipe. The other end of the pipe (1. is suitably connected to a curved metal pipe 01 of a shape similar to that shown. The pipe at is provided with two handles 6 and f, of which the handle 6 is adapted to operate a tap. The pipe d is also provided with two branches g and h, each having a tap. The short branch g is secured to the straight portion (1 intermediately of the same and extends laterally from said portion. The long branch or extension h is curved away from the part d at one end thereof in the direction in which the branch 9 extends, but is curved backwardly at its free or discharge end, so as to oppose and be substantially alined with said branch. The free or discharge ends of the branches g and h are screw-threaded in order to receive a j et-nozzle i or a rose j, according to circumstances.
With this apparatus, in order, say, to take a .pectoral douche, the operator arranges the apparatus round himself with the nozzle t of the branch 9 directed against that part of his body which he wishes to douche, and he holds the apparatus by means of the handles e and v 5 f, which are wide, and thus easily held, the tap 0 having been previously opened, as well as the tap of the branch g, while that of h is closed. He then opens the handle-tap e and water is ejected in a jet against his chest. For dorsal douches the apparatus is held in the same way, only the tap of the branch g remains closed and that of the branch h is opened. The person can receive at will a double douche in front and at the back by leaving these two taps open at the same time, and he can, by holding the apparatus by the handles 6 f and raising or lowering his arms, arrange the pectoral and dorsal douche in the direction and at the level desired. By swinging the hands about the wrist he can direct the branch h, in this case provided with the rose, downward, and so take a shower-bath.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of the said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is- 1. A douche apparatus comprising a rigid pipe adapted for attachment at one end to a flexible water-pipe and embodying a substantially straight portion, a branch extending laterally from said straight portion, a second branch or extension extending from the end of said pipe opposite the water connection and curved so that its discharge end opposes the discharge end of said first-named branch, and taps for independently controlling said branches.
.2. A douche apparatus comprising a rigid pipe having a substantially straight portion attached at one end to a flexible water-pipe, handles at either end ofsaid straight portion, a tap operable by the handle adjacent the water connection, a rigid branch extending laterally from said straight portion intermediately thereof, a second branch or extension extending from the end of said straight portion which is opposite the water connection, and curved so that its discharge end opposes and is alined with said first-named branch, and taps for independently controlling said branches.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES PIERRE THEOIHILE ROUX.
