Description

detail View of the JAMES J. McLINDEN, OFEWATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
CAN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 15 1906.
Application filed September 14, 1905. Serial No. 278.603.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES J McLINnEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, in the State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cans; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 7
This invention relates to improvements in The object of the invention is to provide a can which when open for-the removal of the contents thereof will be so mutilated as to prevent the refilling of the same without detection, means being provided to facilitate the discharge of the contents of the can after the same has been opened and means for temporarily closing the discharge-opening formed therein.
A further object is to provide; a can of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in construction, particularly designed for the reception of olntments, salves, and the like.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed. I
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a can constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional View. Fig. 3 is a top planvi'ew of the can with the temporary cover or closing-cap removed, and Fig. 4 is a plunger-rod used in connection with the can.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the body ofthe can, in the bottom of which is formed acentrally-disposed aperture 2. Adapted to be placed upon the upper end of the can-body and fixedly secured thereto is a closing-cap or coveradapted to be placed a temporary closingcap 7, by which the upper end of the can 1s temporarily closed after being cut open for the removal of a part of the contents of'the can, thus preserving the remaining contents therein.
In order to facilitate the discharge of the contents of the can through the opening cut in the top of the fixed closing-cap 3, a plunger-rod 8 is provided. This rod is provided on one end with a head 9, the op osite end of said rod being adapted to e inserted through the aperture 2 in the bottom of the can and in engagement with the recess 6 in said movable bottom or plunger-disk 5, whereby said disk is pushed upwardly in the canbody, thus forcing the contents of the can out through the hole cut in the top of the fixed closing-cap.
When the orlginal contents of a can constructed as herein shown and described has thus been removed therefrom, it will be impossible to refill said can and sell the same without detection.
From the fore oing description, taken in connection with t e accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended ex lanation;
Various changes in the orm, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described can consisting of a can-body having a centrally-apertured bottom, '21 plunger-disk 5 mounted to slide within the can-body and provided with a removable plunger-rod 8 extending, through the roportion,
