TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, LEWIS PATRIC, of Shortsville, in the county of Ontario, and State of New York, have invented a new. and useful Shaft-Journal; and I do hereby declare that the follow-ing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Y v Figure 1 isa vertical central section of my invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse section ofthe same.
Like letters indicate corresponding parts in both lfigures'.
`The nature of this invention will bc better understood by reference to the drawings and specification. It is more especially designed for thesuspension of inclined water-wheel shafts, and is found to be a very efficient and convenient method.
The vshaft S is supported in socket-gudgeons G, as shown, and they may either or both be provided with two or more lu'gs, c, to receive the clamping-screws r, which are tapped into the eye-bolts f. Bythis means, the gudgeons or journals may be turned up or tightened with thcgreatest facility. The gearing may be attached to the case or to the shaft, as may be desired.
