PACKAGE-ROLL OF METALLIC LEAF.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed June 14,1905. Renewed March 26, 1906. Serial No. 808,176-
Package-Rolls of Metallic Lea of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to acka e-rolls, of metallic leaf from which t e said metallic leaf is to be unwound as required and applied to a surface which is to be decorated, and in the manufacture of such package-rolls for containing a fillet of old-leaf it is desirable to wind a strip of t 'n tissue-paper in contact with the said leaf as its supporting medium, since a fillet of gold-leaf tends to adhere to the surface of such a strip with the required degree of tenacity to insure its ackage roll without liability of injury or displacement; but such I a strip of tissue tpaper when used alone may represents an, enlarged side view 0 a be too weak for rcible unwinding in rolls of narrow width. I therefore employ a supplementary strip of paper as a backing for the said tissue strip with which the fillet of goldleaf is wound into the package-roll.
In the accompanying drawings, Fi ure 1 is ar tially-unwound package-roll of metallic eaf embodying my improvement, the spiral windtion involved in the invention. Fi 2 represents an axial section of the pacl rageaoll shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents an edge view of the ackage-roll and a face view of the unwoun portion of the fillet of metallic leaf and the paper strip In the drawings, represents, the core upon which the tissue-paper strip a and the separate and distinct backing-strip b are wound in connection'with the fillet of metallic leaf 0, the said fillet being represented in the drawings by a dotted line and the backing-strip b represented by a heavier line than that of the tissue strip a, which latter when unwound from the package-roll will lie between the said'fillet of metallic leaf 0 and the backin strip 1). The backing -strip 1) may be made of the same quality of material as that of the stri a or it may be made of heavier meteria ,and the outer side of the said backing-strip may, if required, be sli htly powdered in order to revent the adherence of the metallic leaf t .ereto when the package-roll is being unwound if in any case there should be a tendency to such adherence.
In the manufacture of package-rolls embodying this invention the strips of paper employed for aking the preliminary roll may be drawn from separate s ools and the sheets of metallic leaf deposite upon the upper strip and wound with both strips into a roll, and when the proper number of lapped sheets of metallic leaf have been wound up in the preliminary roll the said preliminary roll is to be divided transversely by means of a suitable cutter into rolls of the re uired width for use, and. in this case the et of metallic leaf'and the accompanying paper of tissue-paper, having a supple-
