Abstract

A lateral tear tape comprises a roller having a longitudinal axis, a tape annularly wound on the roller, several lines of weakness or cutting slots parallel with the longitudinal axis and disposed on the tape to permit easy removal of a strip of tape, and glue material partially applied on the tape to prevent the strips from becoming dirty during removal.

Description

LATERAL TEAR TAPE The present invention relates to a lateral tear tape and, more particularly, to an improved tape which can be torn laterally to form regularly sized films or strips of tape without the use of any tools.
Hitherto tape has always been manufactured as a continuous roll and, during use, it is cut by a knife or a pair of scissors and so on. Owing to this manner of use, the glued portion of the tape must be manually removed and it is therefore dirtied as well as deglued. Moreover, it is difficult to find the ends of prior tapes which ends are often broken when separated, and prior tapes are difficult to cut into uniform sizes for regular use.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to overcome the aforesaid disadvantages and to provide a lateral tear type tape which can be conveniently used.
Another object of the invention is to provide a regularized and standardized tape which is manufactured in suitable predetermined lengths and widths.
A further object is to provide a lateral tear tape which can provide several films or strips in standardized sizes.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a lateral tear tape which is only partly glued for ease of separation and preventing dirtying.
In order that the present invention may be more readily understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lateral tear tape according to the present invention, Figure 2 is a side view of the tape of Figure 1; and Figure 3 is a cross- sectional view of the tape of figure 2.
Referring now to Figure 1, the tape 1 is rolled around a cylindrical roller or core 2. The annular tape 1 is specially manufactured to include several lines of weakness such as cutting slots 5 which can be provided at any required spacing to form films, strips or tape pieces 11 of the desired width between every pair of adjacent cutting slots 5. As shown in the drawings, an imaginary line is provided for distinguishing between the right and left sides wherein the back surface of the right side is not glued so as to permit easy tearing apart with the fingers, and the back face of the left side is provided with glue for the function of sticking. The width of the tape 1 can be predetermined by any requirement and the cutting slots 4 could also be manufactured in the form of curves or zigzags etc.
Now referring to Figures 2 and 3, the tape 1 is rolled on the core 2 by utilizing a technology of coning to form a construction having a taper 3, 4, at each end. Because of these two tapers 3, 4, one can laterally tear the film conveniently and since the end 4 is devoid of glue, the film can be separated from the tape 1 easily and without dirty ing.
Accordingly, it can be seen that the present invention has provided many advantages and improvements. For example, it can provide a formal size of films for regular use and, since tapers are provided on the two ends of the tape, and one side of the tape is without glue, the use of the tape becomes easier and better than ever before whilst the films are capable of avoiding the risk of becoming dirty. It is obvious that the present invention has provided a new and utility product for good working.
Whilst the invention has been explained in relation to a preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that various modifications thereof will become apparent to those skilled in the art upon reading this specification. Therefore, it is to be understood that the invention disclosed herein is intended to cover such modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Claims (5)

1. A lateral tear tape in which the tape is wound in a roll and a multiplicity of cutting slots, score lines or other lines of weakness are formed in the tape such that films or tape pieces are formed between adjacent slots, and in which the tape is partially glued.
2. A lateral tear tape as claimed in claim 1, in which the tape is wound onto a roller or core.
3. A lateral tear tape substantially as claimed in claim 1 or 2, in which the lines of weakness are formed laterally of the tape and substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the core.
4. A lateral tear tape as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, in which the back surface of one end of each film or tape piece is devoid of glue.
5. A lateral tear tape substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
