Specification forming part of Letters Patent Ila/81,799, dated September 1, 1868.

To all whom itmay concern.-

Be it known that we, J. B. LEWIS and J. E. l

UDALL, of Concord, in the county of Morgan and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sulky-Plows; and we do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of our invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section, showing the eccentric connection of the axle to the wheels. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same; and Fig. 4 shows the method of raising and lowering the plow-beam1 The nature of our invention consists in constructing a sulky-plow in such a manner that the depth of the furrow may be varied at pleasure, and that the `plow can be instantly raised from the furrow by the driver, without leaving his seat, when an obstruction is met with, or in moving from place to place.

To accomplish this purpose, we construct To the outer ends ofthe axle are firmly secured the metallic flanges G. Secured to the same by the bolt H, Fig. 3, are the eccentrics I, provided with the wrist-pins J, upon which revolve the traction-wheels K. The eccentrics I are secured in any desired position to the iianges Gr by the pins L passingthrough proper holes in the same, thus lowering or raising the axle B from the ground, as may be necessary to insure the proper depth of furrow. The plow-beam D is raised or lowered by the compound lever M, and secured in any desired position by entering proper notches in the quadrant N.

What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The flanges G, eccentrics I, wrist-pins J, and pins L, when constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.

2. The compound lever M, when constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as herein described, and for the purpose speciied.

3. The combination and arrangement of the above-named parts with the frame A, axle B, bolt H, seat C, traction-wheels K, plow-beam D, plowr E, and quadrant N, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
