Description

No. 817,958.u PATBNTBD APR. 17, 1906. W. P. GLUGSTEN.
ANTISLIPPING DEVICE FOR SHOES.
APPLIoATIoN FILED SEPT. 21. 190s.
aff/@@M UNITED STAES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 17, 1906.
Application filed September 2l. 1905. Serial No. 279,456.
To (2z/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM P. CLUGsTEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hamburg, in the county of Calhoun and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Antislipping Devices for Shoes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an antislipping device for shoes; and it consists in a plate which is fastened to the shoe and carries a pair of spurpoints, which are soarranged that they can be thrown into or out of operative position without removing` the device from the shoe.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view, and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view thereof. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the device applied.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 10 denotes a plate which is bent at one end to form eyes 11, which serve as bearings for a shaft 12, extending therethrough. The ends of the shaft are bent to form spur-points 13, which can be thrown into and out of operative position by rocking the shaft in its bearings. The shaft carries a projecting pin 1,4, which is so arranged that it extends into a perforation 15 in a block 16, secured to the free end of a flat spring 17, which is made fast on the under side of the plate 10, whereby the spur-points are held extended in a vertical position, so as to project below the heel of the shoe. To throw the spur-points into inoperative position, the block 16 is disengaged from the pin 14, which releases the shaft 12 and permits the spur-points to be swung rearwardly into horizontal position, as shown by dotted lines in the drawings. A block 18 is secured to the under side of the plate 10, which block has at the bottom a recess 20 to receive a flat key or other suitable device whereby the spring can be conveniently pried off the pin 14 when the key is turned.
The device is secured to the sole of the shoe adjacent the heel by screws or other suitable means extending through perforations 21 in the plate 10.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
An antislipping device comprising a plate having bearings, a rock-shaft mounted in said bearings, the ends of the shaft extending beyond the plate and being bent to form spur-points which are extensible alongside the plate when the shaft is rocked, a pin proj ecting from the shaft, and a spring having a perforation with which the pin is engageable.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
