JACOB ALBERT RAISER, OF BUOYRUS, OHIO.
SHOE-PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 714,821, dated December 2, 1902 Application filed March 4, 1902.
To all whmn it WI/(by concern- Be it known that I, J AcoB ALBERT RAISER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bucyrus, in the county of Crawford, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Protectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to protectors for shoes; and it has for its object to provide a device of this nature which may be attached to an ordinary shoe to prevent wearing of the sole and cutting of the vamp when using a spade or shovel, a further object of the in vention being to provide a specific article of manufacture which while being efficient in its operation will be cheap and simple.
In the drawing forming a portion of this specification there is shown a perspective view of a protector embodying the present invention.
Referring now to the drawing, there is shown a shoe-protector consisting of a metal plate including a sole portion 15 and an instep portion 16, the metal at the rear end of the instep portion being bent downwardly at a right angle, as shown at 17, to form a protection for The downwardly-bent portion 17 has laterally-di rected ears or extensions 18, which are bent rearwardly at right angles to lie parallel with the side faces of the shoe-heel, and these ears are perforated and have clamping thu mbscrews 19 engaged therewith. At the sides of the instep portion of the plate are formed Serial No. 96,630. (No model.)
wings 20, which are bent upwardly at right angles and are adapted to lie against the vamp of the shoe adjacent to the heel to protect the vamp when the foot of the operator slips from the spade or shovel. At the sides of the sole portion of the shoe are additional upwardly-projecting cars 22, which are perforated and threaded to receive clampingscrews 23, these ears being adapted to lie at opposite sides of the shoe-sole, so that the screws may be engaged with the sole.
The protector shown is stamped from a single sheet of metal, and the ears and wings are bent to their properplaces, the entire structure being easy of manufacture and cheap.
Vhat is claimed is- As an article of manufacture a shoe-protector consisting of a plate comprising a sole portion, an instep portion and a heel front portion each having ears bent up from its sides, the instep portion of the plate lying at an angle to the sole portion and the heel front portion of the plate being bent outwardly at an angle to the instep portion, whereby the ears of the sole portion may embrace the sole of the shoe, the ears of theinstep portion may embrace the instep of the shoe and the ears of the heel portion may embrace the heel of the shoe, and clamping-screws engaged through the ears of sole and heel front portions for clamping the plate to the shoe.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
i J. ALBERT KAISER.
