T0 all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES O. WILHELM, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Limaville, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Account-File, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The purpose of the invention is to provide an account-file which will also serve as a registry of the accounts filed therein and to so construct the iile that the captions of all of the outermost bills contained in the le and accumulated in one or more days or in a given period of time will be visible at a glance and the underlying bills will be equally visible as the outermost ones are removed.

A further purposeof the invention is to so construct and mount the pins receiving the bills that the bills are not liable to accidentally slip from off the pins and so that the bills will hang vertically downward, the body portions of all the bills being concealed, as the front of the casino extends down far enough to conceal the body portion of the lowermost row, and a feature of the invention is to duplicate the sum-total of each bill on the heading of the bill adjacent to the name of the party having the account.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the iigures.

Figiu'e 1 is a front view of the improved file having bills hung therein. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section through a le, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of a bill adapted to the file.

The body or casing of the le consists of two side pieces IO, having their up er edges 11 and their lower edges 11a incline upward from the support for their lower edges. The forward ends 12 of the side pieces 10 are vertical, as are likewise their rear ends 13, and their rear ends 13 are connected by a crosspiece 14. The side pieces 10 are further connected by a series of cross-bars 15, the said cross-bars being vertical and arranged adj acent to the upper edges 11 of said side bars.

Pins A occupy an oblique position relative to the cross-bars 15, said pins being given an upward and forward inclination, (best shown in Fig. 2,) the inclination of all of the pins being the same, and each pin A is provided with a vertical shank 19. The said Shanks are suitably secured in the upper rear portions of the cross-bars 15, which upper rear portions of said cross-bars are inclined.

The rear portion of the frame or casing is supported, preferably, by means of legs 16, which are pivoted to the outer sideportions of the side pieces 10, and when the legs are in an upright or supporting position they are so held by means of hooks 17, likewise pivoted to the outer faces ofthe side pieces 10, which hooks engage pins 18, extending from the legs 16, as is also best shown in Fi 2.

The bills B to be hung on the fgile are provided, as usual, with the name of the debtor at their head portions; but the said bills are further provided at said head portions with a duplicate of the sum-total of a bill, as is shown at B/ in Fig. 3. Usually this duplicate of the sum-total of the bill is placed to the right of the name of the debtor and preferably in alinement therewith. When a bill is to be placed in theiile, the pin upon which it is to be hung is made to enter an opening in the head portion of the bill at or near the center and slightly below the line on which the name of the debtor and the duplicate of the sume total appear, and as one row of pins rises above the other even should all of the pins have bills thereon the head portions of all of the outermost bills can be read at a glance.

The pins A are preferably arranged in vertical rows or series, as is shown in Fig. 1, and ordinarily -a block 20 is secured to the front lower portion of the frame or casing by attaching it to a lower connecting-bar 21, as is shown in Fig. 2, and in this block 20 any desired number of cavities 22 are produced, which cavities constitute pockets for the reception of coin; but the block 2O may be omitted, if desired.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. An account-file, consisting of inclined side pieces connected at each end by crossbars and intermediate of their ends by a series of spaced cross-bars, legs hinged to the upper ends of the side pieces, hooks hinged to the side pieces and engaging the legs to hold them in position, and pins having angular Shanks secured to the intermediate crossbars, whereby the pins will occupy an oblique position relative to the said cross-bars, the pins being arranged in rows.

2. An account-file, comprising inclined side pieces connected together at their upper ends and sup orted at said end by legs, a series of spacel cross-bars arranged in parallel Vertical planes between the inclined side pieces with their upper edges a short distance below the upper edges of said side pieces, and pins having angular Shanks secured to said cross-bars, whereby the pins will stand at right angles to the inclined side pieces.
