To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, TILGHMAN A. HUFFER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lewisville, in the county of Denton and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Necks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved neck for bottles and ars; and it consists, essentially, of a notch formed on each side of the cork to enable the fingers of the operator to obtain a firm grip thereon in order to extract same.
In medicine-bottles and other bottles, the contents of which are removed a little at a time, it is essential that the cork be forced in so as to form a tight seal, and it commonly happens that the cork is broken and disfigured owing to repeated extraction.
The object of my invention is to enable the cork to be easily and quickly extracted by the fingers without the use of a tool and with out mutilating the same in any manner and also to protect it against accidental loosening.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bottleneck, showing my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view showing the position of the fingers in removing the cork. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The numeral 1 indicates a bottle neck which is designed to receive the customary cork 2 and has notches 3 formed on each side of the cork. The lower portion of the notches 8 are rounded to conform to the shape of the fingers, and the sides of the notches are pro vided with abevel which gradually increases from the top to the bottom. This enables the ball of the fingers to obtain the firmest grip upon the cork consistent with the depth of the notch. carefully cut away, so that there will be no sharp projections to interfere with or mutilate the cork or to injure the fingers. By the use of my device the cork can always be placed firmlyinposition Without necessitating the use of a corkscrew or other implement for its removal and is protected against accidental loosening by the portions of the neck between the notches. While my invention is a great improvement and convenience, it is so simple in its nature that it would not add materially to the cost of the bottle.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. A bottle or ar provided in its rim edge with two diametrically opposite well-defined notches or recesses designed to expose the cork on two opposite sides for the fingers of the operator to grasp it when withdrawing it.
2. A bottle or jar provided in its rim edge with well-defined notches the walls of which are beveled, said bevels increasing from the top to the bottom of the notches, as and for the purpose set forth.
