SHADE-BRACKET AND CURTAIN-POLE SUPPORT- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 3, 1906.
Application filed November 20, 1905. Serial No. 288,311.
To all whom, it rmty concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES E. FOREHAND, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade Brackets and Curtain Pole Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in brackets for supporting shade-rollers, in conjunction with which suitable hangers are provided for supporting the curtain pole; and the primary object is to simplify and. improve such devices.
A further object is to provide novel means whereby the curtain pole hangers and the shade-roller hangers can be readily adjusted, as will be more fully explained in the fol lowing.
With the above and other objects in view, to be referred to in the following description, the invention consists of the construction, arrangement, and combinations of parts here-' inafter described, and succinctly defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the present invention and showing the shade-roller in broken lines in operative position. Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3 of Fig.
In the drawings I have shown but one of my improved devices or brackets, but, as is obvious, in operation two will be employed, the same being arranged one at each upper side edge of the window-frame.
The improved. bracket consists of a frame 1, which has end angular extensions 1, a track 2, which is secured at its end portions in the extensions 1, and a suitable traveler, as 3, which is mounted for longitudinal movement on the track Track 2 as now considered is externally threaded, and the traveler 3 has an internallythreaded bore the threads of which. engage those of the track, and therefore when said traveler is rotated it will be adjusted along the track, the direction of such movement depending upon the direction of rotation of the traveler.
Reference numeral 4 indicates a shadebracket hanger whose upper end portion is hooked so as to loosely engage in a circuming the same so ferential groove 5 of the traveler, and this hanger, as shown in the drawings, is formed with a bearing for the usual journal-pin of the shade-roller 6. (Shown in broken lines.)
Frame 1 at an approximately central point is provided with a guide or keeper 7 for the shank 8 of the curtain-pole hanger 9, and at points below said keeper the frame 1 isformed with a series of apertures 10, in any one of which a suitable tongue 11, carried on the shank S, is adapted to be received. By this construction the curtain-pole hanger can be readily adjusted in a vertical plane by swingas to disengage its tongue 11 from the aperture 10 in which it is seated, then raising the hanger bodily and engaging its tongue in another of said openings 10.
To facilitate the proper positioning of the bracket on the window-frame, (indicated by reference-numeral 12,) I provide the bracket with elongated openings 13, through which the securing means, as 14, is adapted to pass.
The construction of bracket as herein provided is simple of construction and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, and by providing both the curtain-pole hanger and the shade roller hanger with adjustable mountings a more efficient bracket is produced. Further, it will be observed that by providing a track and traveler of the character described a very fine adjustment of the traveler can be obtained.
While I have herein shown and described a form of bracket which will carry out the various functions assigned to it, I reserve the right to make such alterations and changes in the details of construction as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United. States of America,
1. A bracket of the type set forth comprising a frame, an immovable externally-scrcwthreaded. track supported thereon, a traveler in threaded engagement with said track, and a hanger carried by said traveler.
2. In a device of the type set forth com prising a frame, a track supported thereon and being externally screw-threaded, a traveler in threaded engagement with said track and being rotatable, and a hanger loosely engaging said traveler. I
3. A device of the type set forth comprising a frame having angular extensions, a no track secured to said extensions of the frame, of the tongue on the shank'of said curtaina traveler on said track and being adjustable pole hanger. 1o longitudinally thereof, a hanger carried by Signed at Seattle, Washington, this 11th said traveler, a forwardly-projecting keeper day of November, 1905.
