Description

1. McQUENEY.
WINDOW SHADE HOLDER.
APPLICATION men JAN. 29. 1916.

mvemoa JOHN Ma QUENEY WITNESSES I ATTORNEY JOHN meeunnnY, or MANHEIM, PENNSYLVANIA.
WIN DOW-SHADE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1918.
Application filed January 29, 1916. Serial No. 75,129.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MGQUENEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manheim, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Window-Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to window shade brackets and is designed with the primary object of providing a new and novel construction which is adapted to various degrees of adjustment in order to support shade rollers of varying lengths.
The invention comprises a casing adapted to be fastened to the window frame, in which is slidably mounted a roller supporting bracket having an elongated slot therein: the said slot being provided along its upper edge with the plurality of notches adapted for engagement with the rivet carried by the casing whereby the said bracket may be adjusted in either direction with relation to the roller.
With these and other objects in. view the invention consists in the construction and combination of the various parts as will hereinafter be described and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device illustrating the application thereof,
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of my device.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrow.
Referring to the drawings by numerals 1 designates a casing provided centrally thereof with lugs 2 and 3 for the reception of screws or other suitable fastening means whereby the casing may be secured to a window frame 5. As clearly shown in Fig. 2, the casing 1 is channeled, and it has flanges at the top and bottom thereof cut away, as
at 6 and 7, at respectively the front and rear ends of the said casing for a purpose which will presently appear.
The roller supporting bracket 8 is slidably mounted in the said casing between the outer wall 4 thereof and the window frame 5, and closely fits the channel of the casing when the bracket stands horizontal. A slot 9 extends longitudinally of the said bracket and is provided with notches 10 along its upper edge adapted for engagement with a rivet 11 carried by the outer wall 4 of the casing. The. rivet 11 extends through the slot 9 and is provided with a washer upon its headed inner end in order to secure the bracket 8 to the outer wall 4 of the casing 1. As will be clearly seen upon inspection of Fig. 2, the notches 10 are adapted for selective engagement with the. rivet 11 in order to provide means for adjusting the said bracket 8 longitudinally in either direction with relation to the casing 1. The bracket 8 is further provided at the inner end thereof with a lip 12 bent at right angles thereto and having a bearing for the reception of the trunnion 13 of the usual shade roller 14.
Referring again to Fig. 2 it will be clearly seen that the lug 2 is bent from the casing 1 at an appreciable distance above its upper edge as at 2 so as to provide space, which in connection with the cutting away of the flanges, as at 6 and 7, will allow the bracket 8 to be tilted in order to disengage the notches 10 from the rivet 11, as clearly shown by the dotted position thereof.
In practice, it is of course understood, that two of my window shade holders are provided, one being disposed upon either side of the window frame, and they operably support between them a shade roller. In operation it will be seen that by moving the bracket 8 so as to cause successive notches 10 to engage the rivet 11 the said bracket 8 may be ad usted longitudinally in either direction with relation to the casing 1.
It is understood that I do not claim the exact construction shown herein, but reserve the right to make such changes and alterations as will not depart from the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
In a shade fixture, the combination with a bracket having a bearing for the rollertrunnion and a long shank provided with a longitudinal slot notched along its upper edge; of a horizontal casin having means for attachment to the window frame and channeled to closely fit said shank when the latter stands horizontal, the upper flange of said channel being cut away at the inner end of the casing and the lower flange cut away at the outer end thereof to permit said shank to tilt, a rivet in the wall of the casing passing through said slot, said. notches selectively engaging such rivet when the shank stands horizontal and disengaging it when the shank is tilted, and a head at Copies of this patent may be obtainfl far the inner extremity of the rivet, all for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses,
.. 7 JOHN MCQUENEY. Witnesses:
