ELECTRIC PLUG CONNECTION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 2o, 1906.
Application filed July 11, 1904. Serial No. 215,999.
' To a/ZZ whom it mafyeoneegn:
ectady, county of Schenectady, State of New i 5 York, have invented certain new and useful l Improvements in Electric Plug Connections,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to plug connections for electric circuits in which one terminal consists of a screw-threaded metallic sleeve by means of which the plug is secured in a screwthreaded socket.
The obj ect of the invention is to provide a stronger support forsaid sleeve and to insulate it more edectually from the central bolt, which constitutes the other terminal.
The novel features of the invention are a washer of insulating material and an internal' flange at the inner end of the sleeve which is tightly clam ed between said Washer and the end of the p ug.
, In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a fuselug embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a ongitudinal central section of the same. Fig. 3 is a view-of the outer en dwith the cap removed. Figf is a 4view of the inner. end. Fig. 5 is a similar view with the washer and central bolt, and Fig. -6 is a central longitudinal section of an attaching-plug embodying the inventidn.
The body l and cap 2 are made of insulating material, referably porcelain, and are fastened toget er by a screw 3. The body has an integral shank 4 of reduced diameter,
over which is slipped the metallic screwthreaded sleeve 5, which abuts at one end against the body -1. The inner end of the sleeve has anl internal flange 6, which abuts against the inner end of the shank and is held in .place by a Washer 7, of porcelain or the like, through which passes the bolt 8, having a head 9 supportin the washer. The bolt extends longitudina ly through the sh ank and body of the plug, and in Figs. 1 to 5 it is s lit at its outer end to receive one end of a se V10, the outer end of which is fastened to a the end of the 11, which has a bent end 12 passing through the flange 6 anden aging with a depression I3 therein, being he d in good electrical co'ntact therewith by the washer. In Fig. 6 the bolt screws into a conducting-strip 14. It will be noticed that' the end of the sleeve is separated from the head of the bolt by a considerable width of insulating material, so that danger from short-cirouiting is lessened.
The details of construction may be somewhat varied to suit different requirements, as
illustrated in the two modifications shown.
'What I claim as new, and desire to secure -by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. An electric connecting-plug having a bodyof insulation, a metallic screw-threaded sleevevsurroundingfsaid body and having an internal flange overlapping the end of said body, and an insulating-Washer smaller in diameter than said sleevepla'ced against the end of said body and clamping said flange thereto.
2. The Acombination with an insulatingbody having a cylindrical end portion, of a screw-threaded metallic.sleeveinclosing said end portion andhaving an internal flange at one end abutting against the end of said body, a washer of insulation smaller in diameter than said sleeve, and a longitudinal bolt holding said washer against said flange.
8. In an electric connecting-plug, the combination with a body of insulation, of an eX- ternal metallic screw-threaded flanged sleeve forming one terminal, a central bolt forming the other terminal and having a head, anda Washer of insulation smaller in diameter than said sleeve held by saidhead against the 'liange on the slreve and clamping it against In witness Wliereof I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of July, 1904;.
