Description

HENRY J. MONTGOMERY, OF SILVER ONE HALF TO NELSON BRIGGS,
HAT-DISPLAY STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 20, 1906.
Application filed May 29, 1905. Serial nefzcases.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, HENRY J. MONTGOM- ERY, a resident of Silver Creek, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-'Display'Stands; and I do hereby declare the following'to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improved hatdisplay stand, the object of the invention being to provide simple and efficient means of this character for su porting one or several hats and which shal be of inexpensive con struction and strong and durable in use.
With this object in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construc tion and combinationsand arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.-
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation illustrating my improvements. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the cross bar 3, and Fig. 3 is a view of a modified form of hat-frame,
1 represents, a base of any shape and material, having a standard 2 secured thereon, and a cross-bar 3 is secured at its center to the upper end of standard 2. This cross-bar 3 is preferably of sheetmetal having longireceive spring wires or-arms 5 and limit the movement thereof, and entrance or exit slots 6 are.provided to said slots 4 for the arms or wires 5 to be entered or removed from the cross-bar'3.
Both spring-arms 5 are formed by a single spring-wire passed through standard 2 and coiled, as shown at 8, at both sides of the standard, and the'ends of the wire then extend up throu h the slots 4 and have my improvedhat-ho ding frames 7 secured totheir free ends. These frames 7 are composed of wire bent into the general sha e shown that is to say, they form a genera corrugated outline comprising a series of rounded lugs,
the lugs being of greatest length at the center of the frame and diminishing in length to the g ends to form the general curved contour of the frames. If desired, this corrugated portion of the frames may be covered with tubular rubber 7 or like material. v i
In Fig. 3 the frame 7 is provided with lugs at its ends only, and these lugs are provided with rubber coverings 7".
Hats may be supported on frames 7 in any desired manner, a hat being sup orted on each frame, or a single hat held by both frames or any other arrangement of the hats may be devised-to best suit theexhibitor.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let-' ters Patent, is I 1. A hat-dis lay device comprising two spring-arms and ends of said spring-arms, each of said upright frames'having their outer portions corrugated, forming a series of upright outwardlyprojecting lugs.
2. A hat-displaying device comprising a standard, two spring arms projecting upwardly and outwardly therefrom, and an upright frame at the upper end of each springarm, each of said frames having its outer portion corrugated, forming a series of upright outwardly-proj ecting lugs.
3. A hat displaying device, comprising a standard, a cross-bar fixed thereto and having alined elongated slots, spring-arms secured to the standard and through the slots of the cross-bar and upright frames at the free ends of the springarms, each upright frame having its outer portion corrugated, forming a series of upright outwardly-projecting lugs.
4. A hat-display device comprising two, spring-arms, and a vertically-disposed corrugated frame at the free end arm.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY J. MONTGOMERY.
I Witnesses:
WILLIAM S. TALCOTT, I HORACE SWETLAND.
