FILING-FOLDER.
lTo (r1/,ZZI whom it may concern: y y n Beit known that I, CLARENCE RICHARD g EVANS, a citizen of the-United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland,
' 5 have invented new and useful Improvements in Filing-Folders, of whichv the'follow-- ing isaspeciication. y
, This invention relates to folders for iiling papers, and has especial reference to that class of filing-folders which are madeof light board, vand are com osed of a s hin ed together and provide at their sides with deviceswhich limit the extent to which the ,foldermay be opened and at the same time permit the flaps to-be readily closed.
The object of the inventlon is to `provide an improved filing-folder of this character which will permit of providing am le Capacity for containin the papers to be led therein and-which wi l be simple and'economical in construction. l
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
folder constructedin accordance with my 1nvention. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the folder when openedto its fullest extent.
1 indlcates the filin -folder, made of pasteboard or other suitab e light and economical material, preferablyformed in one piece and having the fla s 2 and 3 and the hinge 4.
The hln e 4 is ormed b means of-a lait 5 ofsuch wi th as when un olded flat wi l form a bottom 6 for thefolder.proportionally equal A 35.
` I tainin devices orhinge 8 on either side of in width to the lower end 7`of` the foldingrethe fo der. The flaps 2 and 3 are connected at their sides by hinges 8, consistin of thinmaterial-such as paper, linen, or ot er suitable materialfsec'ured to the flaps 2 and-3 in any suitable manner, either by pastin or otherwise, and are formed to fo d 1 Specification of Letters' Patent. Application filed Nov-einher 10l 1905. Serial No. 286,748.
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a filing-- nwar ,as
'.liatented March 13., 1906.
hinges 8 the-,folder may be o ened to the extent shown in Fig. 1 or to t atshown In l Fig.V 2. v
nstead of a single plait 5 the hinge'4 may consist of severalplaits, the side hinges 8 be ing proportional'in width to the width of the several. laits when unfolded. f Ther older herein described is especially adapted for use in'banks and otherbusiness laces and when completely filled is removed om such filing-cases and stored as' a permanent file.l v
' As shown, the to of the flap 2 is lower than the top of the ap 3.. By means of this construction when a number of these vertical folders are located in a vertical filing-case the Aindex or other entry on the tops of the outside of the fla 3 ofan adjacent folder may be easily read w en the-flap 3 is drawn back.
Having described my invention, I'clai1n-- As a new article of manufacture,l a filing,- folder, consisting 4of flaps having a plaitcd hinge, constituting 'an extensible bottom for the folder, and folding hinges connectingthe s idesof the flaps, and having their `lower end located above the plait of the hlnge, and tapering from top to bottom in proportlon yto the wldth of the laited hinge when extended, as herein set rth.
