OIL LAMP. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 23, 1905- Wmaw HERBERT BOGGS, OF COBOURG, CANADA.
OIL-LAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
ratenteol March 13, 1906.
Application filed June 23, 1905. Serial No. 266,633.
T0 aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT Boccs, accountant, residing at the town of Oobourg, in the county of Northumberland, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil- Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in lamp-bowls; and the object of the invention is to devise a simple, durable, and cheap form of lamp-bowl which may be placed in any position and not explode; and it consists, essentially, of a reservoir with a recess in the top of it in which the burner is located, the reservoir being so designed that the annular chamber above the bottom of the recess will contain the oil normally held below the same, as hereinafter more particularly explained.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my lampbowl. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of my lampbowl.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
A is the reservoir, which consists of upper and lower portions A and A the reservoir A being so designed that the volume of oil contained in the annular portion A is equal to or greater than that contained in the portion A B is the recess in which the burner C is located and which gives the form to the reservolr.
D is an ordinary tying the lamp.
Such a form of lamp as'I describe is capable of being tipped or turned in any position without exploding, and when out of the level, even if turned completely upside down, the oil cannot flow back into the entrance of the wick, thereby preventing any chance of explosion or setting anything on fire, thus overcoming a most dangerous fault found in lamps now commonly in use, and it will therefore be understood that in lamps or lanterns a form such as I describe will be an important desideratum.
at I claim as my invention is In a lamp, a bowl having a central recess having its bottom on a line with the oil-level, and its vertical walls forming a chamber above the oil-level, said bottom having a central orifice therein, a screw-cap situated over said orifice and extending up from the said bottom, a burner designed to be screwed into the cap and screw-plugs located in the bowl at the oil-level, said plugs being outside the recess.
screw-plug used for emp- HERBERT BOGGS.
